Review: Our Beloved Summer – Life is Beautiful (Episode 13 & 14)

Episodes 13 & 14 of ‘Our Beloved Summer’ brings to us every character in the drama. The love lives of Yeon-Su and Choi-Ung gets better, with Ji-Ung and NJ trying their best to not get involved with their crushes.

Review: Our Beloved Summer – It’s Time To Start Over (Episode 11 & 12)

Not To Make The Same Mistakes Twice

As the leads once again start dating, they spend a lot of time together, making up for the days lost. Choi-Ung isn’t used to loving Yeon-Su’s way of life, but he’s determined to do so. Ung and Yeon-Su are both extremely hopeful about their future, but also cautious at the same time. While Choi-ung holds his thoughts to himself, Yeon-Su looks for dating advice online, determined not to repeat her past mistakes.

Outside of work, Choi-Ung waits for Yeon-Su. He is kind and assists Yeon-Su in getting into the car, but she is not herself. Yeon-Su brilliantly takes this concept of “showing your new self” outrageously out of hand after asking one of her coworkers for relationship advice, and Choi-Ung begins to sense her strange actions. Yeon-Su points out the articles she’s been reading, and Choi-Ung holds her hand and implores Yeon-Su to be herself, admitting that she’s unlike anyone else and that they should redo their date properly. They spend time at Sol-I’s restaurant drinking soju with a hot bowl of stew, they love doing this the most.

Ji-Ung Suppresses His Emotions

Ji-Ung shows the team the first edit of their documentary. Ms Kim is pleased, as are the others who decide to pursue this path after some editing. While the rest of the members want to go out and party, Ji-Ung is guarded and attempts to keep his emotions under the surface, he grabs his phone and exits the room. Ji-Ung is still focused on his documentary. He puts in long hours, refuses to leave the editing room, and pushes anyone who comes to check on him away until Yeon-Su arrives. She initially goes there to inquire about the documentary’s progress, but get to know that he has been skipping meals. She takes his hand and compels him to eat with her.

Ji-Ung confesses he’s a mess, but he tries to be friendly to her. He tries to open up and tell her the truth about how he’s been feeling but doesn’t get into details. After dinner, Ji-Ung and Yeon-Su return to the editing room. Chae-Ran arrives with takeout and notices, from outside, Jin-Ung glancing at Yeon Su. She is saddened and worried when she sees the two together in the editing room.

The documentary’s first episode was released and it garnered a good viewership. In the epilogue, we see Ji-ung meeting his mother at home who has asked him to film her. Why? As it turns out, she’ll be dying soon, so she’d like him to video her before she passes away.

Sol-Yi- I don’t date a younger guy

Sol-Yi goes on her blind date, but things don’t go as planned. It’s a little embarrassing, especially when the older gentleman admits that he didn’t even notice the time (but it was early.) The problem is that Eun-ho has feelings for her, which causes some embarrassment before she goes out on a date. When Sol-Yi returns to her restaurant, unaware of the clams, Eun-ho is there to assist her in sorting them out. She immediately changes her mind about him, even suggesting that they drink all of the soju in the fridge and eat clam stew together.

Sol-Yi’s ex,  Jin-Seob, turns up after hearing her interview because the documentary is a huge gossip. After what she said, he claims he missed her and feels she misses him as well. Things get awkward when Eun-ho appears in the thick of it. Jin-Seob is eventually gone, but Eun-ho feels jealous. He overhears Jin-Seo on the phone that night, discussing swindling money from Sol-Yi and treating her like a sucker. He also says how she is a bank customer with a lot of debt. Sol-Yi now hears a portion of this dialogue, but only the part about her being taken. She believes he stood up for her chivalrously, and it’s incredibly lovely when the two connect inside afterward. Are Eun-ho and Sol-Yi going to be together? Will she date the younger him? They’ll look fantastic together.

Verdict

It’s about time Choi-ung found out the truth after so many episodes, and hopefully now Yeon-Su will open up and discuss it with him. Ji-ung, on the other hand, continues to linger and mope his way through these episodes.  Seeing his best friend with Yeon-Su must be terrible for him, but he’s missing out on the best thing in his life right now – Chae-Ran. Hopefully, by the conclusion of the season, he comes to his senses and the two end up together.

With only a few more episodes to go, we wonder how the ending will be. Will Yeon-Su and Choi-Ung get married? Or will something damage their relationship? Will Ji-Ung and Chae-Ran be together? We can’t wait to find out what happens next!
