On January 1, SM Town provided a free online concert titled ‘SMTOWN 2022: SMCU EXPRESS @KWANGYA’ as a gift to the fans for the new year. The concert was also marked as the official commencement of ‘BeyondLIVE’ – their own global online streaming platform for concerts, live streams, fan meets and various other VOD.
However, this was just the beginning as fans were pleasantly surprised when SM Town launched a digital version of the fan membership that has revolutionized fandom activities in augmented reality. Previously, a form of identity was granted to the ‘citizens’ or rather the members of SM Town Virtual Nation back in August 2012 and now they have launched ‘Music Nation SMTown Meta-passport.’ The 2022 version of the passport can be used in the virtual nation ‘Music Nation SM Town.’
Having been incorporated more than a decade ago, the agency’s artists and performances have shifted the music and entertainment industry to the next level (oh yes! pun intended). According to S.M. Entertainment, this new passport membership was handed to fans from 30 different countries, as well as the first citizens of SMTown.
“The ‘passport’ serves to connect the real world and the digital world (metaverse) to record and verify all information. The passport holders’ activities within every S.M. Entertainment service will be digitally recorded for diverse benefits (to the members),” said an SM Entertainment official
To obtain the membership, fans will have to register at the agency’s official Facebook page or even at www.smtownandstore.com. According to the schedule, the application period will close on January 31 with the digital passport membership set to be distributed on February 14 at 2 PM KST.
There are also two events held to win a Meta-Passport, check them out here down below!

The company’s latest muse aespa has been promoting this concept ever since their debut in 2020. Being introduced to the world right when the Metaverse was taking its baby steps, the president of culture Mr Lee Soo Man discovered a future in the girls. As SuperM introduced their debut MV ‘Joppin’ which consisted of a similar concept where the boys were seen dancing on a stage right in the middle of a virtual Colosseum in Rome, it was one such spoiler that the agency may have given to all of us.
With this new 3D space beyond what we can imagine, SM Entertainment now aims to bring all of their artists to the Metaverse where fans can experience K-Pop music and culture like never before!
Back in November, when CJ Entertainment acquired 18.53% of SM Ent shares, fans and media were a little sceptical about the future activities of the company but this revolutionary launch has broken all the stereotypical misconceptions.
We can all be assured that the company is going places being the first ever to launch this platform for the fans and artists in the Korean music industry.
