Winners Of The India K-Pop Contest Chennai Regional Round Are Here!

The All India K-pop Contest Regional Round for Chennai, Tamil Nadu was held on 5th June 2022. It was hosted by Korean Culture Center India and K-Wave India organized it in Chennai. Participants who qualified the first round for dance and vocal respectively fought for the regional title winner who would later represent their region nationally. The contest also consisted of a very exciting giveaway thus increasing the excitement and enthusiasm for the viewers as well.

The judging panel for the Chennai regional round consisted of India’s pride Priyanka Muzamdar who was the winner of K-pop World Festival in 2016 and who is now a member of the Z-Pop group called Z-Girls. Along with her, Chennai also had Frozen Crew who joined the judging panel. Frozen Crew from Mizoram were the winners of 2015 K-Pop India Contest in the dance category and also represented India for the World K-pop Festival in 2015 in Korea. The results for the regional round was announced on June 6th.

Winner: LDC

Though the crew consists of many more members, there were 5 members who performed to CRAZY by 4MINUTE for the 2022 contest. The group has been participating in the contest since the past 4 years and they have had quite some wins! During their journey, they won the regional round back in 2018, Stood at 3rd and 2nd place in 2019 and 2021 respectively and this year, they won the winner title once again. Over the years they have grown together as a group and have posted various K-Pop covers on their social media. The 1st Runner Up – Navitha Natarajan was originally part of the crew ELITE, but for this contest, she went solo and danced to BOMB by AleXa. Fiery Halo consisting of 3 members stole the show by performing to OOMM by 3YE which is also a three member Korean girl-group and they were judged as the 2nd Runner Up.

Jennifer Joseph bagged the first place by singing to ‘Destiny’ by MAMAMOO. The song itself is a mixture of genre with varied tempo and rhythm and Jennifer has definitely lived up to it. The first 1st Runner Up, Gauri Girish Nair sang ‘All About You’, an OST from the drama ‘Hotel Del Luna’ sung by Taeyeon. A beautiful 2019 ballad brought to back to life by Gauri again for the 2022 K-Pop India Contest. 2nd Runner Up, Sruthi Ramnarayan sang ‘The Truth Untold’ by BTS. With versatile playlist and vocals, the Chennai Team made sure their voices are heard for the finale.

The Chennia Regional Round also had a popularity awards and for the dance category, this was won by PENTAGONZ while B&W won the vocal category for having the most number of mentions in the comments during the live stream.
