NewJeans breaks a Guinness World Record within less than a year of debuting!
On May 8, KST, NewJeans was recognized and awarded by Guinness World Records for making history as the fastest Korean act to achieve 1 billion streams on Spotify. On March 8, the five-piece girl group fulfilled this feat taking just 219 days!
This is a remarkable record for the group, given they were fairly new to the market and had only six songs available on Spotify at the time this record was accomplished. The tracks include: ‘Attention,’ ‘Hype Boy,’ ‘Cookie,’ and ‘Hurt‘ from their self-titled debut EP ‘NewJeans‘ and two tracks ‘Ditto‘ and ‘OMG’ from the single album also titled ‘OMG.’
The other Korean acts that currently hold world records are Jungkook from BTS for the fastest male K-Pop soloist to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify, while Lisa from BLACKPINK holds the same record as the female counterpart.
NewJeans officially debuted under ADOR, a sub-unit of HYBE Labels, on 22nd July with a music video for ‘Attention.’
