The Plot
In the fictional Joseon dynasty, the royal palace is haunted by vengeful spirits that dwell in a mirror dimension called the Realm of Gwi. For thirty years, the royal line of succession has been plagued by unexplained deaths among the heirs, leaving the kingdom in turmoil.
The King hires Gu-cheon (Nam Joo-hyuk), a ghost slayer capable of projecting his soul into the Realm of Gwi, to eliminate the entities haunting the palace. Gu-cheon gained his supernatural abilities as a child after surviving a drowning accident that claimed his mother’s life. Reluctantly summoned to the palace under the threat of execution, he works alongside Saeng-gang (Roh Yoon-seo), a low-ranking court lady who can communicate with the dead. Secretly the King’s estranged daughter, Saeng-gang is determined to uncover the truth behind her mother’s murder.
Following the poisoning of the Crown Prince, palace rumors attribute his death to the vengeful Pond Spirit, the ghost of an executed court lady. Gu-cheon and Saeng-gang track the entity into the Realm of Gwi, where Gu-cheon destroys it. However, the deaths continue as Prince Yeongan, the King’s remaining heir, falls ill and dies. Along the way, they also encounter Ggeomeoksali, a spirit who occasionally helps them.

Gu-cheon (Played by Nam Joo-hyuk)
A spirit slayer capable of projecting his soul into the Realm of Gwi. Nam Joo-hyuk delivers a powerful performance as a man who acquired supernatural abilities as a child after surviving a drowning accident that killed his mother. But as he learns that his companion, Saeng-gang, is tied to the spirits’ history, he grows invested in the mission and in her. The ruler of Joseon, born to a royal concubine. Cho Seung-woo brings gravitas and complexity to a king who publicly dismisses rumors of supernatural deaths as mere superstition while privately summoning a ghost slayer and his own estranged daughter to investigate. His guilt over past actions, the weight of his ascension, and his ultimate confrontation with his son’s spirit make him one of the most compelling characters in the series.
