BTS has announced that the group will not submit its music for the 69th GRAMMY Awards.
On July 29, all seven members—RM, Jin, Suga, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook shared an identical statement on their individual social media accounts.
In their statement, the group said, “We have decided not to submit our music to the Grammys this year. We hope that music will be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being categorized by region or language.”
The members also expressed their heartfelt gratitude to their fans, adding, “We are grateful to ARMY and everyone who is always with us.”
The group’s decision has been widely interpreted as a response to the Recording Academy’s recent announcement introducing five new Grammy categories, including ‘Best Asian Pop Music Performance.’
The newly introduced categories are intended to recognize performances in Asian languages, including K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop. However, the announcement has sparked debate among fans and industry observers. Many have argued that creating separate categories for Asian music could limit opportunities for these artists to compete alongside other international acts in the Grammy Awards’ general field categories, such as ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Record of the Year.’
