EXCLUSIVE: OX:N Opens Up About Their Japanese Debut ‘SWAY’, Its Themes, and More

After an exciting debut in June 2025, OMEGA X’s first subunit, OX:N, made its Japanese debut with the single album ‘SWAY’ on October 23, 2025. Comprising Jaehan, Xen, Jehyun, and Yechan, ‘SWAY’ marks another step in the group’s musical journey as they continue shaping an identity rooted in emotion and introspection.

In an exclusive interview with Namaste Hallyu, OX:N spoke about the creative process behind ‘SWAY’, their growth as a unit, and their heartfelt messages for Indian FOR X.

A new step in their musical journey, ‘SWAY’ feels like a diary of emotions that people often deal with but do not always articulate. Jaehan walked us through the creative process behind the single album, sharing how it came from a place of empathy, relatability, and the desire to make listeners feel heard.

This single honestly captures the loneliness and longing that everyone might feel at some point in life. We wanted the listeners to break away from the predictable routines of daily life and search for freedom. We also wanted to tell them that they’re not alone.

– Jaehan

For the group’s maknae, Yechan, the process of creating ‘SWAY’ revealed a new side of the members, particularly as the album was recorded at member Xen’s studio. According to Yechan, this shift changed the overall atmosphere of the project. “The process felt much freer and more spontaneous, and I think that natural vibe blended perfectly with the concept of craving freedom.” The relaxed environment allowed the members to experiment and follow their instincts, giving the songs a more organic feel.

As their third release of 2025, ‘SWAY’ represents another step forward for OX:N, though the members see their journey as very much ongoing. “As OX:N, I feel like we’re taking on a wide range of musical challenges. Each release comes with a new concept that fits the four of us, and we’re constantly trying different approaches,” Jaehan shared. Jehyun echoed this sentiment, adding, “Rather than saying we’ve already grown, I think we’re still in the middle of challenging ourselves.” For Yechan, that process is starting to feel more defined and distinctly their own.

I think we’re beginning to shape music and sounds that feel more tailored to the four of us.

– Yechan

Much of the album’s emotional weight comes from personal moments that shaped its songwriting, especially on tracks like ‘SWIRKY’. Jaehan recalled how the song began during a quiet moment overseas. “I’d been feeling a desire to break out of a busy and repetitive daily routine. While walking through the streets of Osaka with Yechan and talking about those feelings, the core theme of ‘SWIRKY’ was born,” he explained.

Xen’s reflections during the process were particularly raw and introspective. “I frequently struggle with loneliness and depressive emotions. And whenever those feelings come, I often find it hard to escape them.” Over time, however, he came to realize the importance of connection. “But I realized that I’m not the only one feeling these emotions. If there’s someone by your side giving you strength, and if this ‘SWAY’ album can offer that strength, I think the album will have fulfilled its purpose,” he added. Yechan also found inspiration while wandering unfamiliar cities alone, observing people and moments that later became part of ‘SWIRKY’. “Seeing the faces of people in the alleyways and hearing snippets of their conversations felt fascinating. That experience eventually became the spark for the song ‘SWIRKY’,” he revealed.

The group’s leader, Jehyun, further reflected on how the album’s emotions extend beyond the group and resonate universally.

These emotions are something we obviously feel ourselves, but I believe they’re universal. They’re emotions everyone experiences. I think we were able to capture human loneliness, frustration, and that sense of heaviness in an honest way.

– Jehyun

While the themes of ‘SWAY’ are heavy, the recording sessions themselves were also filled with warmth and lighter moments. Working out of Xen’s studio brought a sense of closeness and collaboration. “It was fun to work with other musicians and OX:N members,” Xen shared, adding, “It gave the songs a fresh dynamic and a new kind of energy that we really enjoyed.” Jehyun admitted he was surprised by how challenging some of the high-range parts were, while Yechan fondly remembered Xen staying behind late to finish chorus layers for ‘SOMEBODY’ long after the others had wrapped up.

Freedom remains one of the album’s core ideas, though each member defines it differently. For Xen, it is something deeply internal.

What comes to my mind right now is that true freedom is the ability to think, judge, and decide for yourself. As we live, we constantly face situations where circumstances block the direction we want to take or the way we want to express ourselves. Even in those moments, having the confidence to make your own music, voice your own thoughts, and express yourself in your own way defines true freedom for me.

– Xen

For Jehyun, freedom means “absolutely no schedule, no messages or calls to respond to, and I just get to rest in bed without interruption,” while Yechan describes it as “making decisions honestly without being disturbed or influenced by anything else.”

Those reflections on freedom naturally extend into the emotions explored across the album. This same openness carries into ‘SOMEBODY’, a pop-rock track that explores the desire to be happy in love after self-doubt and isolation. Xen shared that one particular line stands out every time. “So tell me you love me, I’m so lonely.” Singing it with fans, he said, helps fill emotional gaps. Yechan connected most deeply with his rap verse, especially the way it echoes the message “Everyone lives in a similar way.”

When it comes to creative inspiration, Xen stays closely tied to culture, whether through books, films, music, or animation. “If I don’t, I start to feel like I’m just blending into my routine, simply passing through daily life without really living it to my best,” he explained. Yechan, on the other hand, draws inspiration from everyday experiences. “When my environment changes, or I experience something new, it naturally makes me want to write music.”

Looking ahead, the members are eager to explore new sounds. Xen hopes to work more with electronic genres like techno and house, Yechan wants to experiment with hyperpop, and Jehyun remains open to anything that allows them to grow. Their Japanese debut holds special meaning as well. Jaehan expressed gratitude for standing before fans with new music, adding, “Through OX:N’s activities, I hope people will continue to remember OMEGA X.” Meanwhile, Xen emphasized the importance of including more self-produced tracks, and stated, “I hope people can see that, despite the difficult circumstances, we are continuing to move forward without stopping.” Jehyun summed it up simply, saying, “I simply want to share our music with as many people as possible,” while Yechan hopes that more people get to know about the group.

Just as they create music for their fans, OX:N also find comfort in music themselves. When asked about songs that brighten their day, Xen shared that his choice is Lola Young’s ‘Messy’, while Yechan named Avril Lavigne’s ‘Here’s to Never Growing Up’. Jehyun, meanwhile, pointed to their own track ‘SWIRKY’, sharing, “We’ve been performing it as the first track in a schedule or event. It’s very fun and good song, so I hope you check it out if you haven’t yet!”

The quartet also expressed excitement about the possibility of meeting their Indian fans. Jaehan and Xen shared that if they were to tour India, the first thing they would want to do is meet Indian FOR X, while Jehyun added, “More than anything, I want to perform in front of our Indian fans and experience their support and cheer!” Yechan, meanwhile, is already looking forward to trying local Indian cuisine if the group ever adds India to their tour list.

OX:N also shared heartfelt messages for their Indian fans. Jaehan said, “Thank you always for supporting us and giving us so much love. Please stay happy and healthy!” Jehyun added, “Thank you to our Indian FOR X for always supporting us. I hope we’ll have the chance to meet you in person someday. Thank you!” Yechan echoed the sentiment, sharing, “I hope we can meet soon. We love you!”

We’ve heard many times that fans in India are waiting for and cheering for OMEGA X. I truly hope we can visit you before too long, and until that day comes, please continue to send us your love and support. I hope today is a happy day for all of you!

– Xen

With ‘SWAY’, OX:N are not trying to present perfect answers or polished emotions. Instead, they offer honesty, vulnerability, and reassurance that feeling lost is part of being human, creating music that resonates quietly and deeply with those willing to listen.
