On April 24, the upcoming film ‘Big Deal’ dropped its first trailer, and it’s already stirring up buzz with its intense face-off, nostalgic setting, and a bottle of soju at the heart of it all.
Set against the backdrop of South Korea’s 1997 IMF financial crisis, ‘Big Deal’ tells the gripping tale of Pyo Jong Rok (Yoo Hae Jin), a dedicated CFO who treats his company like family, and Choi In Bum (Lee Je Hoon), a sharp, profit-driven analyst from global investment firm SolQueen. At stake? The future of Gukbo Group, a traditional soju company fighting to stay afloat in a collapsing economy.
The trailer opens with the classic tune ‘The Moon Is Waxing, Let’s Go’ by Kiha & The Faces, setting a retro yet emotional tone as viewers watch Jong Rok enjoying his beloved soju in different corners of life, reinforcing his unwavering loyalty to the drink and the people behind it.
But things soon spiral. As the financial crash deepens, so does the danger to Gukbo Group. Enter In Bum, who approaches Jong Rok with a warm smile and a promising solution, but beneath the surface lies a game of power, data, and deception.
The trailer intensifies with glimpses of the two men standing on opposite ends of a courtroom. The friendly facade cracks, replaced by razor-sharp tension. “Is using clients’ information to screw them over what they call advanced finance?” Jong Rok spits, calling out the very system threatening to wipe away his life’s work.
In one of the final moments, In Bum throws a heavy line back: “Isn’t South Korea a country where people are free to make money?”, leaving viewers with a lingering question about morality, ambition, and the cost of survival.
Directed by Choi Yoon Jin, ‘Big Deal’ promises not only an emotional ride through history but also a powerful clash between heart and hustle.
Don’t miss this fiery showdown, where soju becomes more than just a drink—it’s a symbol of identity, pride, and resistance.
‘Big Deal’ premieres in theaters on June 3, 2025.
