BLACKPINK is leading the way with a sustainable world tour.
On July 4, YG Entertainment announced that BLACKPINK is embracing sustainability through their upcoming BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR ‘DEADLINE’, by signing an agreement with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to purchase Peace Renewable Energy Certificates (P-RECs).
P-RECs certify renewable energy generated in conflict zones. This marks the first such purchase by a Korean entertainment company. As a result, part of the tour’s electricity use will be offset, and the full proceeds will support health services and education in South Sudan.
Moreover, YG will introduce ‘BLACKPINK Water’, an eco-friendly paper-packaged drink, at the Goyang concerts on July 5–6. Recycling bins and educational booths will be set up to promote proper waste separation. BLACKPINK-themed recycling rewards will also be offered, with part of the proceeds going to environmental initiatives.
A ‘YOUR GREEN STEP’ booth, first started in 2023, will allow fans to measure their carbon footprint, while an exhibit by the British Embassy in Seoul will showcase how they, with BLACKPINK, have fought for climate efforts since 2020.
In 2024, YG Entertainment became the first Korean entertainment agency to publish a Sustainable Performance Report. The report outlined the ‘7 Principles of Sustainable Performances’. Those principles will also be followed during the DEADLINE tour across 16 cities and 31 shows to raise awareness.
BLACKPINK and YG Entertainment are setting a new standard for eco-conscious entertainment.
