On February 16, Wonho released his much-anticipated album, ‘OBSESSION.’
Wonho Drops First Teaser Photos Ahead Of Comeback
The album consists of two tracks for which Wonho participated in both composition and lyrics, displaying his skills as a singer, songwriter, and producer. He said, “I’m grateful that I’m able to greet my fans with my first single album in the year 2022. It feels like we are starting a new year together! I’ll try my best to show great things to you all this year.”
Rightly said by Rolling Stone as the “singer who’s breaking hearts just as quickly as he’s breaking stereotypes,” the artist has explored many themes for OBSESSION and has driven himself to test his creative limits, giving fans a beautiful and meaningful album. He explained, “Sometimes there are people who look at others with stereotypes as if they were wearing coloured glasses. In the music for ‘EYE ON YOU,’ you’ll see there are CCTVs that follow me, representing one’s gaze. The track originally started off with the theme of one’s gaze, but as I progressed with the songwriting, it turned into a topic that one could apply to various stories. In my opinion, it could also be interpreted as a love song, and apply to many different scenarios.”
The title track ‘EYE ON YOU’ hit No. 1 on iTunes Top Songs charts on February 17, in at least 10 nations including, Panama, Paraguay, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, El Salvador, Chile, and Guatemala. The track stood No. 3 in Columbia, No. 6 in Poland and Singapore, and No. 8 in Indonesia, Mexico, and the Philippines.
OBSESSION’s B-Side track ‘Somebody’ expresses Wonho’s vulnerable side as the lyrics are written to show his unguarded side as a storyteller and songwriter. The lyrics go, “I’m all alone in the world full of strangers. Blank faces staring I’m patiently waiting. I need someone to hold on. Take me back to where I belong.” The artist compares the feeling of loneliness to a lone wolf, probably because in general terms a lone wolf is usually referred to as a young wolf who is out there on its own.
In an interview with Teen Vogue, Wonho compares said, “the feelings behind these lyrics are comparable to the image of a wolf being alone, and left in the dark” he explains.
‘Somebody’ grabbed first and third place in Brazil and Saudi Arabia iTunes, respectively.
