‘Street World Fighter: Directors’ War’ Episode 1 Review – A Fiery and Unpredictable Premiere

If you’re an avid watcher of Korean survival shows or even just casually familiar with them, you must have heard of the ‘Street Man/Women Fighter’ franchise at least once. If you are a fan of the series, you know it’s a world of its own. It’s a show that has all the perfect elements that make Korean variety television so addictive: intense competition, a great playlist of K-pop songs, the right amount of suspense and drama, and obviously, a cast you’d want to keep watching.

So, this year, Mnet introduced a new spin-off that puts performance directors at center stage: ‘Street World Fighter: Directors’ War.’

Street World Fighter: Directors' War” Announces Premiere Date With Main Poster | Soompi

Premiered on: August 10, 2026

Episodes: 10

New episode airs on: Every Tuesday

Airing on: Mnet

Available on: Viu, Mnet Plus

The Cast

Each installment in the franchise has always featured a number of recognizable and prominent choreographers in the industry. However, this edition may set a new benchmark due to the impressive number of renowned personalities gathered under one roof. So, here’s this year’s contestant lineup:

  • NAIN
  • Renan
  • Bada Lee
  • Back Koo-young
  • Babyzoo
  • Simeez
  • Ingyoo
  • Minjun Jeong
  • Kasper
  • Hash

Although not every name in the lineup is instantly recognizable, the inclusion of choreographers like Bada Lee, Back Koo-young, and Ingyoo immediately highlights the level of star power the show has. Starting with Bada, her level of fame is evident as she is not known solely for her choreographer profile. She has now become a familiar face in K-pop idol dance challenge circles and has built a substantial fan following of her own.

When it comes to Ingyoo, he comes from the group ‘WE DEM BOYZ’ and attracted particular attention after the song ‘like JENNIE,’ along with the group’s choreography, went viral. But those who’ve watched him before would know that his appeal also extends to his sassy attitude and sharp-tongued persona. And Back Koo-young’s stature in the choreographer world is perhaps best captured by the fact that he is often referred to as ‘K-pop Appuji’ (father of K-pop).

The Host

The host or MC often receives less attention in shows of this nature. However, Sung Hanbin’s striking presence and handsome face make him really difficult to overlook whenever he appears on screen. As the leader and member of K-pop group ZEROBASEONE, Hanbin is often praised for his hosting skills.

It is hardly a secret that he is not only an accomplished dancer but also has an impressive command of tutting and waacking, which is somehow part of his broader appeal on the show. Given his background as a dancer, he has shared warm and amicable relationships with many different choreographers in the industry, with one of them being Bada Lee.

The First Mission

The premiere opened with the familiar review round, in which all the participants sit and watch each other’s impressions and assessments. As usual, the segment quickly gave way to harsh comments and blunt judgments. However, the first episode began with the most brutal exercise ever: the 1:1 Signature Choreography Showdown!

In this mission, the participants had only 2 hours to recreate and steal their opponents’ signature choreographies. This rivalry mission quickly became one of the most intense segments of the whole franchise. The opponents were paired in a way that was almost guaranteed to provoke friction, possibly highlighting Mnet’s strategy to heighten the dramatic appeal of the show.

Most of the results were predictable since the participants’ votes aligned with those of the public. However, the most disappointing moment was the matchup between Bada and Ingyoo. Currently, they are among the most prominent choreographers. Yet, Bada Lee made some memorable moves that managed to overshadow the original routine—an achievement that maybe none would have been able to accomplish, given how popular the choreography of ‘like JENNIE’ has become. Given her immense popularity, it is not difficult to see why contestants didn’t vote for her and wanted to reduce the competition. Even so, the outcome was very disappointing, as it felt like competitive strategy took over a fair assessment of the actual performance.

Anyway, the first mission is not yet over. After the first round, contestants now have to go through the large-scale mission, called the ‘Last Run,’ which will involve 400 dancers. At this stage, there is no clear indication of how things will unfold or who will win this mission.

So, stay tuned for more updates!
