Netflix’s ‘Squid Game’ had earlier created history during the 2022 SAG Awards nominations as the first Korean TV series and first foreign-language show to be nominated for the prestigious Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards).
The Korean hit drama continued to create history by winning SAG awards earlier today. The Korean TV show took home the award for Outstanding Action Performance as a Stunt Ensemble. Lee Jung-Jae won his first-ever SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series while Jung Ho-Yeon won her first award from the prestigious ceremony for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series. The drama was also additionally nominated for Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of the drama, shared in a statement,
“As the director of ‘Squid Game‘, today has to be the happiest moment. I am reminded of all the days spent on first meetings with the cast, the auditions, visiting theatres to see their performances, the script readings, rehearsals, and the days on set.
“I want to truly thank not only the cast who have been nominated today but also all of the supporting and the near-300 background talent. ‘Squid Game‘ would never have been what it became without the devotion and hard work of every single one of you. You deserve all the glory and credit.”
“Squid Game” launched on Netflix in September 2021 and by Oct. 28, the show had been streamed over 3 billion million across the globe. It also broke the charts and created records as the Netflix No 1 show and has also consistently maintained its position on Top 10 Netflix shows across the world including India.
