Episodes 5 & 6 of ‘The Witch’ dive deeper into Dong-jin’s quest to protect Mi-jeong, and, oh boy, the next episodes are sure to spice things up even more!
In the last review of episodes 3 and 4, we talked about how frustrating it was that this is a romance show, yet the leads hadn’t even met. But episodes 5 and 6 take a different turn, showing us a deeper, more different side of love—this time, from Dong-jin’s perspective.
Episode 5: Dong-jin’s quest to find the truth

The episode picks up right where we left off—Dong-jin heading to his hometown to dig up information on Park Mi-jeong. His first stop is a realtor (the village head), questioning him about the deaths that occurred in the area where Mi-jeong lived. Determined to learn more, he arranged a reunion with his old friends and asked for their help.
One of his friends, Seo Da-eun, now a teacher at their former high school, grants him access to the school’s storage room. From there, Dong-jin starts to gather data—printing documents, digitizing records, mapping out accident locations, and analyzing distances between Mi-jeong and the men who were affected. His dedication, patience, and unwavering perseverance in this mission are next-level. A particularly crucial moment is when he searches an entire apartment complex, going door to door until he finally finds the man who once had a crush on Mi-jeong and suffered an injury. This shows that Dong-jin’s feelings for Mi-jeong are not just a simple crush. He is putting himself in danger, which somehow shows the depth of his dedication and care for her.
Through all his research, including interviews with past victims (such as the man who collapsed in the subway), Dong-jin concludes what he calls “The Rules of Death”:
- Being within 10 meters of Mi-jeong is dangerous.
- If she knows your name, it’s dangerous.
- Being acquainted with her is dangerous.
- Confessing your feelings to her is dangerous.
- Breaking all of these rules will result in death.
The episode ends on a shocking note. Up until now, many viewers assumed Dong-jin might be immune to Mi-jeong’s so-called “curse.” But when Mi-jeong steps outside her home—falling within Dong-jin’s 10-meter radius—the measuring tape he was using snaps, leaving a cut on his hand. Coincidence? Or proof that he isn’t immune after all?
Episode 6: Mi-jeong’s warm friendship

In contrast to how most people used to treat Mi-jeong, this episode highlights one person who has always supported her—her college senior and only friend, Heo Eun-sil. We get beautiful glimpses of their bond, from Eun-sil defending Mi-jeong against student council criticism to hugging her after the tragic fall of the married English professor. She even helps Mi-jeong secure a rooftop room at her aunt’s house.
Eun-sil also agrees to help Dong-jin, introducing him to people who have interacted with Mi-jeong in the past. This allows him to gather more evidence for his theory. But the biggest moment of the episode? Dong-jin decides to test his hypothesis on himself.
He takes up a part-time job as a delivery worker and, on a chosen day, times himself for exactly 10 minutes before delivering groceries directly to Mi-jeong. That’s when—finally—they meet. Face to face. The episode ends right at this intense moment, leaving us all on edge.
Discussion
Now that they’ve finally met, what happens next? Will Dong-jin continue testing his theory, and more importantly, will he remain safe? That measuring tape incident in episode 5, minor as it was, doesn’t feel like a coincidence to me.
And is this really the first time Mi-jeong is learning about Dong-jin, or could it turn out that she secretly knew about him in some way?
Anyways, the romance we’ve been waiting for is FINALLY here!
