Review: ‘Happiness’ – Episode 5 & 6 (The Wait For Rescue)

‘HAPPINESS’ is back with their fifth and sixth episode. Our main leads are struggling to save the tenants and everything gets more chaotic when the zombies break into the apartment that has been sheltering them.

Review: ‘Happiness’ – Episode 3 & 4 (Desperation in Isolation)

EPISODE 5

Stay Put

The episode starts with Sae Bom rushing to check on Seo Yoon who is busy calling her mother. The phone and television signals are disconnected after displaying a message “Everyone stay put and wait for rescue”. Sung Shil is worried about her condition and her son Dong Hyun tries to pacify her that it is just symptoms of her old age. While discussing Joo Hyung’s case, Sang Hee tries to seduce the attorney Hae Sung.

Meeting = Chaos

Everyone gathers in the gym basement after hearing the news about the residents of other buildings getting infected. They argue with Yi Hyun that the news is fake and express their desire to leave the place.

Sae Bom opens the door for them to leave but the residents get scared and step back. Joo Hyung interrupts them by offering money to anyone who checks the situation outside and the cleaner crew agrees. Yi Hyun gets upset and reminds everyone that Joo Hyung is a murderer. Doo Hyun records the whole meeting to get views. Young Ok suspects Yi Hyun of being interested in the representative position. Yi Hyun, Sae Bom, and Young Ok alert the tenants not to step out of the building and check whether all the doors are locked. Hyun Kyung and So Yoon volunteer to provide the cleaning crew with food and clothing.

Is The Trainer Affected Or Not?

Yi Hyun and Sae Bom interrogate the gym trainer and he denies taking the pills. Yi Hyun finds CCTV footage of him crawling for water but the trainer doesn’t spill the beans. Young Ok confronts the gym trainer Kim Seung Beom for taking pills. While leaving, she hears a thud and sees a man asking for help to let him in. When she is about to unlock the door, she notices a bandage on his neck and bloody fingernails. To check whether he is infected, she spills the water and he turns into a zombie.

Lytta Virus

Tae Seok’s soldiers raid the nightclub that deals with Next pills. When he cuts off the power, the members inside start to make strange noises and get infected. He orders the building to be shut down. At the official meeting, Ji Soo gives a briefing about ‘Lytta Virus’ which affects the nervous system and the brain. Tae Seok informs that while anti-bodes have been found but there is no cure until now.

Zombified Supermarket

The next morning, Sae Bom finds Yi Hyun wearing a protective mask and gear to check outside but she stops him from leaving. She fails to convince him and instead decides to join him when Jung Kook denies it.

Downstairs, Sae Bom asks for money from Joo Hyung and distributes it to the cleaning crew. Yi Hyun denies taking the money because the money is illegal. Dong Hyun tags along with them to record the situation. They run into the affected ones who are now normal and do not remember yesterday’s incident. Yi Hyun insists to Sae Bom and others to leave before they turn into zombies and heads to the supermarket to collect the necessary items. After spotting blood on the floor, the cleaning crew runs away and Dong Hyun starts recording. He follows the bloodstains and encounters zombies killing each other. Andrew saves him and both run outside to inform others. They find Bo Ram, the supermarket recipient hiding and rescue her. Sae Bom and Yi Hyun pull down the fence gate blocking the zombies from entering.

Yi Hyun And His Frustration

In the lobby, Young Ok and other tenants lock the door so that Yi Hyun and others can’t enter. She suspects them being infected and Joo Hyung further raises suspicion by playing Min Ji’s recording of her making the zombie noises. Everyone desperately bangs the door as the zombies can surround them anytime. Seo Yoon opens the door and Jung Kook finds Joo Hyung’s mobile. Yi Hyun breaks it and the cleaner holds Young Ok’s throat. Yi Hyun grabs a bloody apron and heads up screaming Joo Hyung’s name. He pushes him against the wall and rubs the infected person’s blood all over his face. Joo Hyung screams in fear and rushes inside. Yi Hyun apologizes to Sae Bom for reacting like that and she hugs him to comfort him. In the watchtower, Tae Seok watches the people protesting and asks Ji Soo to release one of the infected people among the public so that they would know the seriousness.

EPISODE 6

The Pill – Next

The episode starts with a flashback where Tae Seok and his wife dine with Chairman Choi to celebrate the approval for NEXT to treat adult ADHD.

Tae Seok gets to know about the side effects of NEXT and asks the Chairman to compensate for the deaths. After hearing a loud sound, he goes inside to find Chairman Choi sucking his wife’s neck. Presently, Ji Soo reports to Tae Seok that all the patients injected with the treatment have died. Tae Seok and Ji Soo visit Chairman Choi who informs them that the cure must be found soon for him and Tae Seok’s wife to survive. He instructs Tae Seok to cut off electricity and stop providing food.

Tenants And Their Trust Issues 

Meanwhile, in the apartment, Yi Hyun holds another meeting in the gym and only a few show up as they still do not believe that the other residents have gotten affected. After the meeting, Sae Bom and Yi Hyun rush to the rooftop to check whether it is locked so that the zombies won’t enter. They find Andrew who informs them that the doors are locked. She remembers the high school days and misses her mother and Yi Hyun states that the only way to survive is to stay safe. Young Ok decides to renovate the apartment and makes a visit to 501 to apologize. Seo Yoon whispers to Sae Bom that she doesn’t trust Young Ok and Sae Bom ask her to keep friends close and enemies closer. One of the affected residents contacts Hae Sung and wants to meet him regarding the legal consultation. His wife hurries to Sae Bom to save him from getting affected. Hae Sung goes to the basement and checks whether the resident is infected. Sae Bom arrives at the right time when he is about to open the door and unlocks it. The resident runs away which makes Hae Sung more upset and curses her.

The Trainer Is A Zombie 

In 601, Joo Hyung viciously swears to kill Yi Hyun.

Joo Hyung learns that the infection spreads after the intake of the pills and heads to the gym. He meets the gym trainer and thanks for providing Min Ji with the drug. He further asks him about the drugs, but when he keeps on denying it, Joo Hyung starts to throw things at him. All of a sudden, the trainer turns into a zombie and approaches Joo Hyung, who finds Yi Hyun outside and begs to save him. Yi Hyun warns him to keep quiet about Seung Beom and saves him. Joo Hyung tries to hit Yi Hyun but gets knocked down and tries to run. Sae Bom kicks his stomach for trying to hurt her husband. Once Seung Beom returns to normal, he finally confesses to taking the pills and tells Joo Hyung about the place where pills are stored. Hae Sung goes to every unit to spread the news about Seung Beom getting infected. Sae Bom tries to convince Se Hoon, on the 15th floor to vote for Seung Beom to stay. In the garage, Joo Hyung breaks into Seung Beom’s car and steals the remaining Next pills.

Cast Your Vote

The next morning, all gather in the gym to vote and decide whether Seung Beom can stay in the apartment or not. Hae Sung persuades everyone to vote for his side but Sae Bom explains that this case is similar to COVID 19 and that the virus doesn’t discriminate.

She questions them that if they start to throw people out, will they do the same if the infected person is their family? People start to vote and it ends with a tie. But as a tie-breaker, Se Hoon leaves after voting for Seung Beom to stay. Sae Bom and Yi Hyun draft the safety measure and ask the residents to monitor him in pairs. When everyone backs off, Hyun Kyung takes up the responsibility. Sae Bom visits Se Hoon to look at his collection of military supplies. Downstairs, Young Ok stops by to check on Seung Beom and offers him water to drink. Yi Hyun talks with him and finds out about the true buyer of the pills. It’s Se Hoon from the 15th floor who is with Sae Bom.

Yi Hyun gets worried and rushes to her. Se Hoon refuses to open the door and Yi Hyun warns him not to hurt Sae Bom.

Zombies In The Apartment

Dong Hyun realizes that he is missing his phone and with Bo Ram’s help leaves the building to find it. They spot the phone and Bo Ram picks it up. Before she heads back to the building, an infected resident shows up. While Hyun Kyung and her brother Soo Min argue over the money, they hear a strange noise. Bo Ram and Dong Hyun come running and let two zombies bust in.

Soo Min checks the hallway and suddenly gets dragged away by a zombie. Hyun Kyung runs back to the gym and barricades the doors.

Verdict

The drama is a bag full of surprises and twists. More than a mere zombie show, this one is well developed and has an interesting storyline for each episode. It’s unpredictable and leaves us guessing on what might happen in the next episode. The chemistry between the main cast is so promising and the way they care for each other is sketched out well.

Do you think Yi Hyun would be able to save Sae Bom without getting bitten? Episode 6 has left us with many questions about what will happen next! Still can’t accept the fact that Se Hoon is the true buyer. According to the preview, we can surely expect that the tenants will now finally realize the seriousness of the situation.
