Review: ‘Happiness’ – Betrayal Is More Dangerous Than The Disease (Episode 7 & 8)

‘HAPPINESS’ is back with its seventh and eighth episode. The more the lockdown extends, the more humanity dies. Until now no cure has been found and the residents hold grudges among themselves.

Review: ‘Happiness’ – Episode 5 & 6 (The Wait For Rescue)

The Infected Trainer

Episode 7 opens with Yi Hyun arguing with Se Hoon to leave Sae Bom, but he crashes in and sees her being fascinated with Se Hoon’s collection and snacks. To clear the awkwardness, Yi Hyun expresses his love for Sae Bom and she plays along with him. As soon as they step out, Yi Hyun checks whether she got hurt but nothing is found. The infected resident tries to feed on Seo Yoon but she smartly prevents him from entering unit 501.

Yi Hyun and Sae Bom find him outside their home with a bloody face and he runs away. After checking on Seo Yoon, they leave for the gym. They find Seung Beom feeling thirsty and turn into a zombie. When they try to control him, Tae Seok shoots him. In Unit 202, Yi Hyun bangs the door to check whether they are alright, and the cleaning crew after confirming he is not infected opens the door. Jung Kook informs him that Dong Hyun and Bo Ram are the ones who opened the main door of the complex. He rushes there and sees the missing phone and hits Dong Hyun for causing the mess. 

Lockdown + 4 Days

On the rooftop, Sae Bom asks Tae Seok about her scratch and he admits that the virus is still in her bloodstream and that she should take the regular blood test.

He informs her that Seo Yoon’s parents are infected and wants to meet her. He comforts Seo Yoon that her parents are alright and she can also meet them. But instead, she sends a cute greeting card to her parents. He leaves to address the residents about the 4-day lockdown and that there won’t be any power supply. Tae Seok assures Yi Hyun that Sae Bom’s condition is not in danger but also that she is not fully cured. After the meeting, everyone rushes home to fill their bathtubs with water to be prepared. Yi Hyun gets shocked seeing Seung Beom’s body missing and checks the CCTV. He finds the soldier cutting his brain for testing an antibody for a cure. He feels that Sae Bom is in trouble and rushes to find her. 

Sae Bom’s Antibody

Sae Bom heads to the rooftop to meet Tae Seok. He confesses that there is an antibody found in her blood and it can be a cure.

To check it, he lets the infected security crawl on her. Finally, he fires the gun on the security and injects a tranquillizer. Jung Kook nervously looks at Tae Seok carrying a bloody unconscious Sae Bom. He puts her in his car and Yi Hyun chases him out of the garage. He slides and points the gun at Tae Seok to leave her. The soldiers point guns at Yi Hyun and Sae Bom holds the gun to Tae Seok’s head. She gets out of the car and he signals everyone to drop the gun. Yi Hyun punches his face and allows Sae Bom to undergo examination but with a condition that they will contact Seung Beom’s family and continue providing meals for the residents. Yi Hyun asks for weapons to better protect Sae Bom. Yi Hyun calms Jung Kook and explains the situation. Tae Seok instructs Ji Soo to test Sae Bom’s blood in a lab with high biosafety.

In 601, Joo Hyung injects the Next capsules into unopened water bottles with a syringe. In 401, Hyun Kyung gets a call through the video intercom from Soo Min. He is covered in blood but looks alright. He asks her to look after his family and the power cuts. In the garage, Soo Min is woken by the flashlight from inside the building and follows it.

EPISODE 8

Why Soo Min Is Not Yet Infected?

The episode starts with Moon Hee and Se Kyu convincing Young Ok to let them use an empty apartment on the 11th floor. Joo Hyung states that the residents would feel safer when the cleaning crew stays at the bottom and act as guard dogs. At night, Yi Hyun and Sae Bom head up to the roof to collect rainwater. Hyun Kyung worries about Soo Min and goes down to the lobby to check him. He looks fine and only feels thirsty. Yi Hyun and Sae Bom meet the cleaning lady and she informs them about the bloody towel found in the trash bag. They find a lunchbox in the garage and Jung Kook advises them to stop investigating. They step into Hyun Kyung’s unit to check on her brother but he is nowhere found. Later she sneaks to 1102 and when she sees Yi Hyun and Sae Bom, she admits that she has hidden Soo Min there. He tells that it was Joo Hyung who offered him the lunch box but he denied it.

Lack Of Necessities

In 302, Dong Hyun tells Bo Ram that his mother seems to be infected but she asks him to take care of them instead of running away. The next morning, the lockdown is not yet lifted and everyone assembles in the gym for a meeting. 

 

They see many water bottles and Young Ok nervously accepts that she offered it.  In 302, Dong Hyun hears the thudding sound again. The alarm blares with an announcement that martial law is being extended. In the gym, everyone plans on what to do next and Dong Hyun confesses that his mother is infected. They decide to quarantine unit 302. Later the war for food and water supplements begin. Yi Hyun and Sae Bom crash into Young Ok’s unit and see the low-quality electronics.

He accuses her of bringing Seung Beom in to support her efforts to become the resident representative and Sae Bom claims that she will never succeed. Later they both get worried about Jung Kook getting into religiosity by Woo Chang. Young Ok feels that Sae Bom is infected and wanted to get rid of them. Surprisingly, Jung Kook teams up with her.

Don’t Interrupt During A Kiss

Yi Hyun checks the bag of supplies he procured from Ji Soo.

He got snacks for Sae Bom and a military two-way radio. He asks Sae Bom about her scratch and she assures him that if she gets infected she will let him know. That night, Dong Hyun runs away and goes to 201 and offers food and water as a token to let him stay with them. Andrew provides the cleaning lady with food and helps her to escort her to another place. Joo Hyung informs Young Ok that Soo Min is hidden in the apartment and both decide to check on him. They start to scream and spread the rumour of him getting infected. Sae Bom asks him what he relied on after losing baseball and he admits it was her. He steps closer to her to kiss but gets interrupted by Joo Hyung and Young Ok. When they both head to 1102 and see Soo Min being alright but decide to handcuff him in the gym to avoid the argument. 

The Betrayal

Joo Hyung admits that he add injected the Next Pill in the water bottles he provided earlier. Assuming they’re now infected he tells them to lock themselves away until there’s a treatment or ask Tae Seok for help.

But Yi Hyun is aware of Joo Hyung’s dirty tricks and switched the pills with his digestive meds. When they head out, Jung Kook points the gun at them. He tells them to get quarantines because he can’t get infected. Elsewhere, Chairman Choi and his friends happily take the treatment shot.

Tae Seok viciously beats the guard and the blood drops and all turn into zombies.

VERDICT

The show sets fire with various twists and turns in the plot. The viewers can’t judge anyone and wonder when will the residents’ true colors be shown. The chemistry between the main cast is also started to develop into a romantic one.
