On November 8, ‘Squid Game’ hosted a promotional event in the magnificent city of Los Angeles. In an interview, Director Hwang Dong Hyuk confirmed that the fans can anticipate a second season of the popular series.
During this event, the Director has announced that they are currently undergoing discussions regarding the second season. While there is no official confirmation from Netflix, the netizens are keeping a positive mind.
On Monday night, ‘Squid Game’ writer and director Hwang Dong Hyuk and the main cast Lee Jung Jae, Park Hae Soo, and Jung Ho Yeon appeared at the NeueHouse Hollywood red carpet rolled out by Netflix for a special screening and Q&A session.
“There’s been a lot of demand and pressure and love for a second season. It almost feels like we don’t have a choice. The next season is in my head right now. At this moment, I’m in the planning stages. It’s too early to say when and how it will come out though. But I can promise this. The main character, Gi Hun, will be back and do something for the world.” – Hwang Dong Hyuk
He further explained, “Right now that’s my homework right now. Figuring out how to take what I created in Season one and make something new and unexpected. Even when I was in Korea, there was a lot of pressure for season two. We see people already written season two and season three for us. Coming here and really seeing how well-received the show is and how much the fans want it, I have been getting the same question by the press as well.”
Actor Lee Jung Jae, who plays the role of Seong Gi Hun expressed his gratitude, “I just can’t believe this is happening. I did not know or ever imagined it would make it this big. I didn’t ever think we would get this much love, so being here and standing in front of you, everything, I just feel so grateful.”
The plot of ‘Squid Game’ follows 456 people who are heavily in debt and willing to risk their lives to win 45.6 Billion Won as the cash prize by playing a child’s game. The initial amount increases each time a contestant dies at each level. The nine-part series stars Lee Jung Jae, Park Hae Soo, and Jung Ho Yeon.
The series broke records after its premiere on Netflix and further stood number 1 on Netflix India and worldwide for weeks. Netflix also revealed that in October, 111 million Netflix subscribers from various parts of the world watched this show.
