With the advent of K-Dramas in the world, people have resorted to K-Dramas as a factor of healing. The amount of synergy and the delicate balance between the heart wrenching dialogues followed by the unrealistic scenarios, each and every k-drama carries with it a greater sense of purpose of not just entertaining but also educating.
Following this very same intention is the soon to be released K-Drama titled ‘Our Blues’, set in the backdrop of the vibrant and joyful ‘Blue’ windy skies of Jeju Island. The drama depicts a wide narration of the characters who are connected to each other by Jeju or maybe it’s their ‘Blues’ that connect them together, maybe it’s something more. Well, that can only be perceived after watching the drama. Starring Lee Byun-hun, Shin Min-a, Kim Woo-Bin, Han Ji-min, Cha Seung-won, Lee Jung-eun and Uhm Jung-hwa, the drama is set to release on April 9 and will air on tvN’s network, whereas, for other nations it will be available on the streaming platform, Netflix. The drama stars different casts, each with a different role and will consist of 20 episodes with each and every episode telling a story in itself.
During the live press conference, the writer of the drama, Noh Hee Kyung, mentioned the intent for creating the drama was not to focus on just a couple of main leads but rather an amalgamation of various leads and characters with their own personal stories, she quotes, “We are all the lead character in our own life”.
She also said she chose Jeju Island because she believes Jeju is a place where the Korean and locals’ sentiments remain intact. In Jeju everyone is either blood related or very close to one another and hence, their closely knit culture was something she would use to portray the Korean culture.
The director of the series, Kim Kyu-tae, proclaimed that maximum efforts have been made to create the drama. The director further added that the drama is done in classic and sophisticated manner that focused more on the characters and the story of their scars that they share with each other along with their journey of life as they try to heal those scars.
‘Our Blues’ sees a widely different concept in which the characters portray the main roles as well as the supporting roles throughout the entire series. The series is set to revolve around the characters as they stand either at their climax of life or its beginning along with the sweet and bitter aspects of their life in an omnibus format.
The cast of the series all shared their wondrous time on set as they relived the joy of watching each other’s skills and also encouraged one another to do their best. Actor Kim Woo Bin, who is making his comeback in 6 years after recovering, expressed the nervousness that he felt while working with the senior cast and also the excitement of delivering a new work for his fans. He shared, ”I’m nervous as its been quite some time. So I am very nervous. I did appear on a scripted variety show and some commercials but I’m so happy and thankful that I’m able to appear on a drama series and to meet you all.”
When questioned about the casting process of the real-life couple Shin Min Ah and Kim Woo Bin, the star scriptwriter claimed that the couple would have outright rejected the role if she had paired them. Thus, she asked them to follow different love lines, which they beautifully portrayed with a great sense of professionalism.
Lastly, the cast described the drama in short but beautiful words; Lee Byung Hun shared his anticipation to watch the episodes, Shin Min Ah relayed the importance of relationships, Cha Seung Won mentioned the warmth, Lee Jung Eun expressed the story that every generation shares, Uhm Jung Hwa conveyed the feeling of blues, Han Ji Min and Kim Woo Bin shared the heart warming sensation that they received from their experience of the drama.
‘Our Blues’ intends to deliver a message of hope that survives even during pain. It will be a story of celebration along with music that will heal the scars of those wounded in life.
