MONSTA X’ Shownu Announces Enlistment And Writes a Letter To Monbebes

MONSTA X’ Shownu is set to enlist this month!

 

In a surprise letter addressed to Monbebe, MONSTA X Shownu announced earlier today that he will be enlisting in the military later this month.

Shownu personally posted on the group’s official fan cafe and wrote that he would start his mandatory military service from July 22. The letter states:

 

“Hello. Have you been well?
I will take a brief hiatus from June 22 to fulfil my duty and serve the nation. It feels like I only debuted yesterday, but it is already time for me to enlist in the military.
Working hard till now, I have experienced joy and hardship; and spent meaningful moments with the members and fans. All this time, I have received unconditional support and love from my fans. I think there were times I unconsciously took it for granted and then realized that I should not. 
Thank you for letting me experience so many things with Monsta X. I will do my best to repay you for all the love, so I hope you can have fun times with me and Monsta X. 
Thank you for letting me realize that each day can be lived anew through new experiences. The path and the life I chose may not be as good as now, or it could have been better, or it could have been excessive, I don’t know.
I think living while feeling thankful, grateful, loving, being upset and sad is happiness. Regardless of the life I have, I am a happy person. I think I am also a bit nervous talking like this. 
Anyways, thank you, and always stay happy and healthy.

Starship Entertainment also released a statement stating Shownu will undergo basic training for three weeks before serving as a Public Service Worker due to his medical history.

The MONSTAX member had underwent surgery for retinal detachment in 2020 and took a hiatus in May 2021 due to discomfort in his left eye. Additionally, Shownu had dislocated his shoulder in 2018 during filming for MBC’s Real Men 300. The agency also stated that the time and location of Shownu’s enlistment will not be disclosed, and there will be no special events keeping in mind the COVID-19 norms.

Fans were surprised by the sudden announcement but they sent their encouragement.  Shownu is the first member of MONSTA X to enlist in the military. It is expected that Kihyun will also be enlisting this year.
