Meet The Winners Of 32nd Seoul Music Awards

On January 19, the 32nd Seoul Music Awards were held at the KSPO Dome and hosted by SHINee’s Minho, Lovelyz’s Mijoo, and Kim Il Joong. 

The ‘Seoul Music Awards show was first celebrated in 1990 and has been traditionally held annually by Sports Seoul to recognize musical excellence and outstanding achievements in the Korean music scene. The winners were picked from songs and albums released from January to December of 2022 by calculating 30% online voting, 40% panelists, and 30% sales. Meanwhile, winners of the ‘Popularity Award’ and the ‘Hallyu Special Award’ are chosen by 100% online voting, Korean and overseas. Winners for ‘Best Performance’, ‘Band Award’, ‘Discovery of the Year’, and ‘Special Jury Award’ are determined by 100% panelist input. Some of the best musical artists of today in the Korean music industry were given honorary awards, just like every year.

While NCT Dream swept the ‘Daesang’ (Grand Prize) this year, several artists like PSY, and Lim Young Woong snagged two awards each. Meanwhile, owing to their recent comeback after a seven-year hiatus, KARA was honored with the ‘K-pop Special Award’.

BTS made history by creating a lot of new records this year. The group filled its bag with the most awards of the night with a total of three wins. The awards include a ‘Bonsang’ (Main Award), which BTS won for 9 consecutive years (2014-2022), an ‘Idol Plus Best Artist’ award, and ‘Best Album’ for 4 non-consecutive years (2016, 2018, 2020, 2022).
BTS even broke the tied record with EXO, by becoming the most-awarded act in the Seoul Music Award history with a total of 26 wins so far.
