The Korean Cultural Centre India and LG Electronics India are teaming up once again to host the ‘All India K-POP Contest 2024‘, marking its 14th anniversary.
Last year saw a record-breaking participation of 11,071 teams, solidifying the contest as a significant platform for K-Pop enthusiasts across India. LG Electronics India has stepped up again as the sole sponsor this year, signing a business agreement with the Korean Cultural Centre India. They will collaborate on various promotional activities, including a dedicated contest website and regional preliminary competitions featuring LG Electronics products.
Open to Indian citizens passionate about K-Pop, the contest kicks off with online preliminaries from May 17th to June 21st, 2024. Applicants’ videos will be judged based on skill, expression and pronunciation, similarity to the original song, and stage presence. Only individuals and groups who can participate for the entirety of the event can be a part of the All India K-Pop contest.
After the preliminary online round, regional preliminaries will follow in 11 regions from July 27th to September 1st, leading to the semifinals in Mumbai on October 19th. The grand finale will take place alongside the Korea Industrial Exhibition (KoINDEX) at ‘Yashobhoomi’, India’s largest international exhibition centre in New Delhi on November 23rd. The finalists will have the opportunity to showcase their talent on a top-notch stage system and stand a chance to visit Korea.
Mr. Hwang Il Yong, Director of the Korean Cultural Centre India, expressed excitement about India’s love for Korean cultural content, highlighting the K-POP contest as a flagship event in the country’s ‘Korean Wave’ phenomenon.
“In a survey held regarding the preference for Korean cultural content abroad, India ranked as one of the highest nations around the world. This K-POP contest is the only large-scale ‘Korean Wave’ event held in all of India.
This year, in addition to the main event, we plan to hold various participatory events that everyone can enjoy, such as ‘K-POP On Street’. I hope it will become a festival venue where Indians who love the ‘Korean Wave’ can come out and enjoy.”- Hwang Il Yong, Director, Korean Cultural Centre India
Jeon Hong Ju, MD of LG Electronics, emphasised the contest’s role in empowering youth and promoting the K-pop culture in India.
“The K-POP contest is truly a ‘Life’s Good’ moment for youth who find purpose in K-POP music & dance. The response for the contest last year was overwhelming and we are expecting a remarkable response this year as well. We are proud to collaborate with Korean Cultural Centre India to launch ‘All India K-POP Contest 2024’. There will be a series of events planned to create awareness for K-POP aimed to encourage young audiences to join this contest.” – Jeon Hong Ju, MD, LG Electronics
Expectations are high for another successful event, with a range of activities planned to engage young
audiences and foster K-pop appreciation.
