K-Drama Recommendation of the Week – ‘Our Universe’: Love in the Chaos of Parenthood

Welcome to ‘Our Universe’, the 2026 tvN coming-of-age romance that beautifully captures the messiness, joy, and unexpected tenderness of becoming a parent when you least expect it. Starring Bae In-hyuk, Roh Jeong-eui, Park Seo-ham, and the scene-stealing toddler Park Yoo-ho, this drama marks tvN‘s triumphant return to the Wednesday-Thursday time slot after a three-year hiatus.

OUR UNIVERSE K-DRAMA POSTER

Starring: Bae In-hyuk, Roh Jeong-eui, Park Seo-ham, Park Yoo-ho

Director: Lee Hyun-seok, Jung Yeo-jin

Writers: Soo-jin, Jeon Yu-ri, Shin Yi-hyun

Episodes: 12

Network: tvN

Where to Watch: TVING (Korea), Viki, HBO Max (International)

The Plot

Twenty-eight-year-olds Seon Tae-hyung (Bae In-hyuk) and Woo Hyun-jin (Roh Jeong-eui) have nothing in common except mutual annoyance. He’s a photography assistant with a painful past, raised in an orphanage after being abandoned by his older brother. She’s a pragmatic job seeker, raised by her devoted older sister after their parents’ death.

Then tragedy strikes. Their siblings, Tae-hyung’s brother and Hyun-jin’s sister, die suddenly in a car accident, leaving behind their 20-month-old son, Woo-ju (Park Yoo-ho). Now, these two in-laws, with no prior relationship and vastly different personalities, must share a home and raise a toddler together.

What follows is a delightful, chaotic, and deeply moving journey as these inexperienced guardians navigate midnight feedings, daycare dramas, and the terrifying realization that they might actually be falling for each other. But just as their bond deepens, Hyun-jin’s college senior, Park Yoon-seong (Park Seo-ham), re-enters her life, creating a love triangle that tests everyone’s hearts.

The Characters

Seon Tae-hyung (Bae In-hyuk)

Bae-In-Hyuk OUR UNIVERSE

A photography assistant known for his skill despite his junior status, Tae-hyung was raised in an orphanage after his brother left him there. Initially withdrawn and guarded, he prefers solitude and control. But when he becomes Woo-ju’s guardian, his walls slowly crumble. Bae In-hyuk delivers a nuanced performance, capturing Tae-hyung’s transformation from a guarded cynic to a devoted ‘uncle-dad,’ proving that family isn’t always about blood—it’s about showing up.

Woo Hyun-jin (Roh Jeong-eui)

Roh-Jeong-Eui OUR UNIVERSE

A high-achieving college graduate who worked tirelessly to ease her sister’s burden, Hyun-jin is practical, determined, and utterly unprepared for motherhood. Despite having no experience, she commits wholeheartedly to raising Woo-ju. Roh Jeong-eui brings warmth and vulnerability to the role, portraying a woman torn between career ambitions, grief, and the unexpected pull of her heart toward both a child and the man helping her raise him.

Park Yoon-seong (Park Seo-ham)

The youngest team leader at BS Food and Hyun-jin’s college senior, Yoon-seong once harbored unrequited feelings for her. When they reunite as colleagues, he attempts to rekindle their connection, becoming a rival to Tae-hyung. Park Seo-ham adds charm and complexity to a character who questions the nature of Tae-hyung and Hyun-jin’s unconventional living arrangement.

Seon Woo-ju (Park Yoo-ho)

The 20-month-old heart of the show. With his angelic looks and unpredictable toddler temperament, Woo-ju steals every scene he’s in. Whether he’s crying heartbreakingly, making a mess, or simply being mischievous, he remains the emotional center of the story.

Why This Drama is Your Next Binge-Watch

  • The Comeback of Wed–Thu Dramas on tvN – After a three-year hiatus, tvN revived its Wednesday–Thursday time slot with ‘Our Universe’—and what a return it is!
  • Baby Woo-ju Will Steal Your Heart- Critics and viewers agree: Park Yoo-ho as Woo-ju is the undeniable scene-stealer. From his heartbreaking cries after learning of his parents’ death to his giggles over chocolate, every moment with him is pure gold.
  • A Fresh Take on the Co-Parenting Trope – Two strangers, one baby, and shared grief, the drama explores how tragedy can forge unexpected connections. The dynamic between Tae-hyung and Hyun-jin has been described as “chaotic but refreshing” by netizens.
  • Beautiful Cinematography and Direction –Helmed by directors Lee Hyun-seok and Jung Yeo-jin, the series captures both the intimacy of family moments and the broader emotional landscape of healing.

A Deeper Look

‘Our Universe’ explores profound questions about family, grief, and the courage to love again. Can two people carrying deep emotional wounds learn to trust each other? What does it mean to become a parent when you never planned to be one? And how do you honor the memory of loved ones while building a future with someone new?

The drama also thoughtfully portrays the challenges of balancing career and childcare, the importance of community support (because it truly takes a village), and the slow, beautiful process of healing through connection.

The Final Verdict

Image

While some viewers wished for more focus on the parenting journey and less on the love triangle, ‘Our Universe’ remains a touching, emotionally resonant drama about finding family in the most unexpected places. With its stellar cast, an adorable toddler, and moments of genuine warmth, it’s a worthy addition to your watchlist.
