Jackson Wang Bares It All In His Upcoming Album, ‘MAGIC MAN 2’

Jackson Wang is back, and he’s ready to take fans on an emotional journey with his highly anticipated new single, ‘High Alone’.

On February 11, the global superstar musician and fashion icon, Jackson Wang dropped the teaser of his new single ‘High Alone’ and announced his upcoming full-length album, ‘MAGIC MAN 2’. Set to release on February 12, at 9 PM IST, ‘High Alone’ gives fans the first look into ‘MAGIC MAN 2,’ a project that delves deeper into the duality of Jackson’s artistic persona and his struggles.

The figure of MAGIC MAN, first introduced in 2022 with Jackson Wang’s first full-length album, makes a reappearance in ‘High Alone’. The enigmatic figure now takes on a more complex and darker form in its sequel. As ‘MAGIC MAN 2’ unfolds, this alter ego will gradually reveal its darker, toxic traits, offering listeners an intimate portrait of Jackson’s inner emotions, personal growth, and experiences.

‘MAGIC MAN 2’ is Jackson’s self-produced album and ‘High Alone’ sets the tone for it. Taking a step back from the spotlight for the first time in his career, Jackson’s much-needed break opened unaddressed emotions. The album is structured into four distinct chapters, each exploring a different stage of grief. From manic highs fueled by denial to the painful reckoning of lost identity, setting boundaries and shedding people-pleasing tendencies, to ultimately finding peace through acceptance—‘MAGIC MAN 2’ is a raw, unfiltered chronicle of his evolution.

Reflecting on the origins of the ‘MAGIC MAN,’ Jackson Wang shared that it was born from a period of introspection.

“I created MAGIC MAN to figure out my pain, as a mask representing my darkest emotions, my internal emotions. I told the world ‘Find Your Magic’—they cheered. As I took roughly a year away from the scene, I kept asking myself and I realized I have never honestly asked myself that. As MAGIC MAN came to its end, I have experienced nothing but the crucial reality of what humanity is. I was in a very dark place mentally and physically. I thought I could never recover. I went through stages of avoiding it, facing it, being destroyed by it, letting myself rot, picking myself up, and trying to accept it. The only way I could release it was by writing in my diary. Writing down how and why I was feeling the way I felt. And for the first time, I put my world into my music. This album represents being true to myself, listening to my heart, and accepting all the good and the bad. This is MAGIC MAN II.”

His previous album ‘MAGIC MAN’ (2022) debuted at #15 on the Billboard 200 and #3 on the Top Album Sales chart, amassing over 123 million streams worldwide. The anticipation for his upcoming album is high and Jackson Wang is set to go beyond the expectations as he bares it all in ‘MAGIC MAN 2’.

His 2023 MAGIC MAN WORLD TOUR was a global success, selling out venues across continents, and his historic Coachella performance—where he became the first-ever Chinese solo artist to perform three times—solidified his presence on the global stage. He also performed at the 2023 Lollapalooza music festival in Mumbai, India, marking his debut performance in the country.
