Star News reported earlier today that actor Im Siwan will play the lead role in the second season of Netflix’s cult hit show ‘Squid Game.’ However, neither Netflix Korea nor Im Siwan’s agency, PLUM A&C has confirmed the news.
Both companies responded to the news by requesting to understand and stating that they cannot officially provide affirmation on the news. Although the news is yet to be confirmed, fans of Im Siwan are looking forward to seeing him in this critically acclaimed series.
Hwang Dong Hyuk, the Director of ‘Squid Game’ had confirmed the casting of Lee Byung Hun and Lee Jung Jae as the Front Man and Gi Hun in the second season in June, last year. He also provided a hint of Gong Yoo’s comeback in the drama.
If the news is confirmed, Im Siwan is expected to play the role of the protagonist. ‘Squid Game 2’ is expected to begin filming this summer with a targeted release in 2024.
‘Squid Game’ is a 2021 Netflix original drama about a secret survival game where contestants compete with each other for life-changing prize money. The games played are all based on children’s games but the stakes are deadly. The drama also goes beyond the survival game by
highlighting class disparity and the financial struggle of people.
Im Siwan started his journey as a member of the K-Pop group, ZE:A, and gained recognition as an actor for his performances in dramas like ‘Misaeng: Incomplete Life,’ ‘Run On’ and ‘Summer Strike.’ His last release was the Netflix movie ‘Unlocked‘ in which he played the role of a villain.
