[Down to Earth] Global Superstar TAEYANG Releases EP Album

Superstar singer, songwriter, and dancer, TAEYANG, has finally released his long-awaited second EP album Down to Earth. The six-track EP album also features Jimin from BTS and Lisa from BLACKPINK, bringing fandoms together.

Taking inspiration from the sultry ‘80s-90s R&B genre, Down to Earth opens with ‘VIBE (feat. Jimin of BTS)’ as the listeners groove to the cross-generational release uniting the superstars of different eras. The track debuted at #76 on Billboard’s Hot 100 creating intense buzz and racking up an astonishing number of streams on Spotify and YouTube.

Vibing right behind it is the second single ‘Shoong! (feat. LISA of BLACKPINK),’ a booming trap anthem that displayed TAEYANG’s smooth vocals along with LISA’s crafty raps. With the solid aim of being a big hit, the duet brings great excitement and surprise to the fans of BIGBANG and BLACKPINK.

Apart from the lively A-list features, Down to Earth includes a deep and heart-touching personal ballad ‘Seed,’ followed by the flagrantly romantic ‘70s-attuned ‘Reason.’ The next track, ‘Inspiration’ is a nod to the artists who have inspired TAEYANG, featuring rapper Beenzino. The last track ‘Nightfall’ features THEBLACKLABEL’s artist Bryan Chase as it brings a smooth and peaceful closure to the EP.

Down to Earth is the Taeyang’s first solo project after 2017’s WHITE NIGHT. Taeyang has poured all his hard work and effort into the creation of the EP and even has credits for songwriting on all the tracks within the album. The artist describes the album as a collection of various emotions and inspirations that he felt while gazing at the sunset.

Talking about ‘Down to Earth,’ TAEYANG shares, “The sunset, which decorates a day’s end, welcomes the dark night and not a new morning. Just like the sunset, my world is colored with beautiful memories of the past, but what came back to me was the ceaseless night that followed. Thus, I began to realize that the image of myself over the past 6 years was not much different than the sunset.”

He further adds, “In a way, I was deeply touched and felt relief by the silent sunset and how it greets the night, fulfilling its role in the most beautiful way possible. The repetitive and burdensome times that I could not overcome alone guided me ‘back to the drawing board’. Thus, this album allowed me to capture my heart that was ready to jump back up into a fresh new start.”

The artist also reflects on the personal and creative struggles that he had to face in recent years. He shares that the previous experiences and understanding of these struggles as an essential step that shaped and prepared him for this new chapter in his life. Adding on, TAEYANG conveys his gratitude to his new family and says, “To the producers and staff members at THEBLACKLABEL, who offered me a new home, and to my fans, who waited all this time without any guarantees, I want to express my infinite gratitude.”

TAEYANG is a member of the global group BIGBANG, dubbed the ‘Kings of K-Pop.’ BIGBANG has been one of the most influential and most decorated idol groups in the late 2000s and 2010s. They played a vital part in the ascension of K-Pop on a global scale while also being the first to perform at stadiums worldwide for millions of fans with record-breaking numbers. This global recognition influenced the group to include countless acts in their musical style and self-production. For their revolutionary work within the music industry, BIGBANG has landed multiple awards on the New York Times ‘Best Concerts List’ and even picked up the ‘Best Worldwide Act’ at the MTV Europe Awards.

TAEYANG being one of the members of the group to have made history has also accomplished himself as a solo artist with the release of massively successful albums, two of them have even ranked #1 on Billboard’s World Albums chart. Some of the hits include Song of the Year award-winning ‘Eyes, Nose, Lips’ which won on all major Korean award shows. With the release of Down to Earth, he is all set to crown himself as one of K-Pop’s most influential artists.
