BTS’ RM has officially been appointed as the first-ever global ambassador of the National Museum of Korea!
On June 20, National Museum of Korea announced that RM (Kim Namjoon) was appointed as their first global ambassador on June 19, citing his deep interest in Korean traditional culture and art, as well as his contributions to preserving cultural heritage.

During the appointment ceremony, RM was presented with a Daedongyeojido Hanging Scroll, a miniature version of the original Joseon Dynasty masterpiece from the museum’s collection. After the ceremony, RM and Museum Director You Hong-june toured the ‘Kim Hongdo: Painting His Era’ exhibition at the Calligraphy and Painting Gallery.
RM expressed his gratitude by stating, “It is my great pleasure to be appointed as the global ambassador. I will do my best to share the beauty and value of Korea’s cultural heritage with a wider audience.”
You Hong-june, Director of the museum, shared, “It is highly meaningful to share the beauty of Korea’s cultural heritage with the global audience in collaboration with RM of BTS. We expect RM to play a significant role in establishing the National Museum of Korea as a cultural institution loved by people worldwide.”
Notably, in 2021 and 2022 RM donated 100 million won ($65,231) each year to the Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation to support the restoration and preservation of Korean cultural assets overseas.
As global ambassador, RM will join various promotional activities aimed to introduce Korean history and traditional culture to international audiences.
Additionally, RM is also an enthusiastic art collector and is preparing to present a special exhibition from his personal collection named, ‘RM x SFMOMA’ at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in October.
