K-POP Rookie group TOO made a surprise announcement regarding their name change to ‘TO1’ ahead of their performance at the KCON:TACT 3 and their twitter accounts further unveiled a new logo.
“Together as One,” will be their new phrase and they are gearing up for their new phase. They performed as TO1 on the show and explained that their new name is the same as their new greeting. In addition to changing their name, the company also deleted all of the group’s Twitter accounts that were under ‘TOO’ and renamed handle on Instagram, Tiktok and Facebook. All the old posts on the Instagram handle were deleted and new pictures were posted. Their YouTube channel has also been Rebranded.
Their former name ‘TOO’ stood for “Ten Oriented Orchestra”. TOO, now known as TO1 was born out of the MNET survival program ‘World Klass’, a project launched by CJ ENM in partnership with n.CH Entertainment.
TO1 is a 10 member group comprising of Chihoon, Donggeon, Chan, Jisu, Minsu, Jaeyun, J.You, Kyungho, Jerome and Woonggi. TO1 debuted with their first mini album Reason For Being: Benevolence on April 1, 2020, with the title track “Magnolia” and made their comeback with their second mini album Running TOOgether, with the title track “Count 1, 2.” on July 2020. TO1 won the “New Artist Award”, their first rookie award since debut at the 2020 Soribada Awards.
Although there has been no official statement for the reason behind the sudden name change, it is likely due to the end of CJ ENM and n.CH Entertainment’s joint management over the group and the conflict between the two companies. Earlier in January, CJ ENM had made a public announcement refuting n.CH Entertainment’s claim over 7 years of Business partnership and had stated that CJ ENM will now be the sole management in-charge of the boy group.
Regardless of the company in charge or the name of the group, we are excited to see what TO1 has in store for their fans.
