Netflix has officially confirmed that the hit animated film ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ will return with a highly anticipated sequel.
Directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans will return to write and direct the upcoming project, marking the first release under Netflix’s exclusive multi-year animation partnership with the duo.
Released in June 2025, ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ quickly became a global phenomenon, breaking records as one of Netflix’s most-watched films and earning major industry recognition, including Academy Award nominations for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for ‘Golden’, which also won the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media.
Director Maggie Kang shared, “I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters. There’s so much more to this world we have built, and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning.”
Chris Appelhans added, “These characters are like family to us; their world has become our second home. We’re excited to write their next chapter, challenge them, and watch them evolve—while continuing to push the boundaries of how music, animation, and story can come together.”
While further details about the sequel’s storyline and release timeline have yet to be revealed, fans can expect the return of the iconic demon-hunting K-pop group HUNTR/X and the expansion of the film’s unique universe blending music, action, and fantasy.
