Stray Kids have made a chart-topping comeback with their fourth full-length album, ‘KARMA’, released on August 22 under JYP Entertainment and Republic Records. This album marks their first studio release since 2023’s ‘5-STAR’, further cementing their global influence and success.
‘KARMA’ draws inspiration from the idea of turning negativity into positivity—encapsulated in a clever play on the word ‘calmer.’ Stray Kids said, “KARMA is something we can proudly say at our current position and stage in our career. Although the wording is strong, what we have built so far is our weapon and in a way, a warning,” showing their confidence.
In an interview with SBS News, the leader Bang Chan shared the album’s meaning, explaining that ‘KARMA’ represents cause and effect. He shared that their choices and actions have shaped who they are today, and that they put everything they have into the album. Each song is interconnected, forming a story they created together.
Bang Chan also revealed during a promotional activity that the album carries Bollywood-inspired influences, explaining that both ‘KARMA’ and its title track draw inspiration from Bollywood and Indian music. Member Hyunjin added that the title track has a lively, champagne-like vibe, which he associated with a festive, party atmosphere.
‘KARMA’ features a total of eleven tracks: ‘BLEEP’, ‘CEREMONY’, ‘CREED’, ‘MESS’, ‘In My Head’, ‘Half Time’, ‘Phoenix’, ‘Ghost’, and ‘0801’, along with two alternate versions of the title track — ‘CEREMONY (Festival Version)’ and ‘CEREMONY (English Version)’.
All tracks on the album are written and co-composed by the group’s in-house production unit, 3RACHA, consisting of members Bang Chan, Changbin, and Han, with additional support from star producers Millionboy, Versachoi, Jun2, and DallasK.
The intro track ‘BLEEP’ carries the strongest hip-hop vibe, adding a boom-bap rhythm to a cinematic-sounding production. It conveys Stray Kids’ message of overcoming challenges and ignoring negative criticism. The track has also been chosen as a favorite among the members.
The title track ‘CEREMONY’ is a high-energy, celebratory anthem created for both live stages and fans around the world. With bold instrumentation and dynamic vocals, it blends hip-hop and festival EDM to showcase the group’s growth. Changbin shared that the performance for the track is full of energy, which is visible in the track’s music video, reflecting the group’s journey with their fandom, STAY, and he also expressed hope that people could enjoy it with a festive vibe.
The cinematic Music video features an athletic theme and a surprise appearance by League of Legends star Faker. Set in the year 2081, the track follows a ‘Karma Sports’ concept where the members compete for a symbolic ‘Karma Coin.’
‘CREED’ as the title suggests, is a track about firm belief, built on trap hip-hop beats with an addictive melody. The chorus has a chant-like repetition, with lyrics such as “I give life to my words, yeah, I’m doing what I say”.
‘MESS’ is an emo hip-hop track that combines rough guitar sounds with a hip-hop beat, reflecting on enduring feelings and inner conflict after a breakup. Using ‘MESS’ as its theme, the song shares complicated, piled-up emotions.
‘In My Head’ is a pop-rock track with cheerful guitar sounds and an easy, sing-along melody, offering a different vibe from the previous songs. It features members’ brighter vocals and rap. Through this track, Stray Kids sends a message to their fans—and to listeners around the world—who are struggling with overthinking and worry, expressing their hope that singing along, even just for a moment, can make the listeners’ hearts feel lighter and calmer, The track begins with the lines “Hey, you, lying in your bed / Staring at the ceiling, yeah, I thought that you were dead / What’s going on in your head?”
‘Half Time,’ centered on the bass, is a track that declares the game is not yet finished and reinforces self-assurance and confidence for the second half that is about to unfold. With its dynamic beats, it conveys a story of determination, with the lyrics “I’m at the half time, play time, Now I’m (now I’m) just getting started”.
‘Phoenix’ stands strong as an EDM anthem that carries the message of overcoming difficulties and soaring higher, like a phoenix reborn from flames. With its heart-pounding, overwhelming sound and grand group singing, the track is filled with the energy of passion and hope. Overall, it aligns perfectly with the album’s core message of rising above challenges. The song features producers DallasK and Ronnie Icon, giving it a polished, worldwide feel.
‘Ghost’ is an all-English, hip-hop track. Characterized by heart-pounding bass, piercing synths, it explores the theme of inner demons and feeling unseen.. The mood is captured in lines like “I feel like I’m a ghost, I’m out of my mind / I don’t know why I’m lost in space and time”.
‘0801,’ named after Stray Kids’ debut date (August 1), is a track that serves as a sentimental nod to their journey. It balances emotional lyrics with bright, acoustic-leaning instrumentation, acting as a thank-you note to STAY, filled with gratitude and growth.
‘CEREMONY’ (Festival Version) is designed to capture the high-energy feel of a live concert. This version amplifies the anthem-like theme of the title track, featuring crowd-style chants, layered percussion, and a more spacious mix, making it perfect for stadiums and live audiences.
‘CEREMONY’ (English Version) is tailored for international and English-speaking audiences. It maintains the same energetic vibe as the original while featuring all-English lyrics. The song stays true to its celebratory feel, making it easier for a global audience to connect with its message.
With such a dynamic lineup of songs that showcase their growth and versatility, ‘KARMA’ didn’t just impress musically, it also made a huge impact on the charts and sales right from the start.
‘KARMA’ delivered one of the most dominant openings in K-pop history. It surpassed 2.08 million copies sold within 24 hours, becoming Stray Kids’ second album to achieve this milestone after ‘5-STAR.’ The release is now the fastest-selling K-pop album of 2025, topping both Hanteo’s daily chart and the Circle Chart’s weekly retail rankings.
‘KARMA’ serves both as a celebration of Stray Kids’ legacy and a bold step forward. Lyrically and sonically, it channels the dual energies of power and vulnerability—qualities that have come to define the group’s unique sound.
‘KARMA’ is not just an album, it’s a statement. Embracing both turbulence and tranquility, it invites listeners into the adrenaline-charged world of Karma Sports. A must-listen for fans of high-octane hits and introspective anthems, the album cements Stray Kids’ status as global trailblazers and self-made artists.
