The global sensation Jackson Wang recently dropped his new album, ‘MAGICMAN 2’, on July 18, the successor to his 2022 solo album, ‘MAGIC MAN’. The release has received love and praise from fans worldwide, especially following the string of pre-releases that set the tone for the full album.
‘MAGICMAN 2’ features 11 tracks and is framed around four chapters, taking listeners on an emotional journey through Manic High, Losing Control, Realization, and finally, Acceptance.
‘Made Me a Man’, the focus track of the album, is a musical reflection of Jackson himself, exploring his inner turmoil, accepting his flaws and vulnerabilities, and letting go of what he cannot control and what causes him pain.
“I learned how to run before I could walk / They silenced my voice before I could talk” — the opening lyrics portray the raw emotions of Jackson, channeled through his alter ego, Magic Man, as he navigates the glossy yet chaotic world of the outwardly glamorous music industry.
The music video begins with the Magic Man standing in a lush pink field surrounded by mountains, wearing dark makeup that symbolizes his internal conflict and hidden secrets. The transformation from Magic Man to Jackson in the final scenes reflects a journey of self-discovery, a recurring theme carried throughout the album.
Jackson delivers the song with sincere emotion, not just through the lyrics, which stem from his personal journal, but also through the visuals. In the MV, the black-and-white tones of Magic Man reflect his emotional struggles and desire for freedom.
As the song nears its end, it closes with the verse: “I told myself, enough is enough / Tired of living life for the rush.” Here, Magic Man reaches a moment of clarity. He acknowledges his past, the pain and darkness that once held him back, and chooses to move forward. This transformation is visually portrayed in the music video as he removes his gloves, wipes off his dark makeup (symbolizing ego), shifts his perspective, and walks toward the light. It’s a symbolic rebirth, a return to his true self.
The track is a powerful way to close the album, with its acoustic guitar backdrop and fragile, vulnerable vocals capturing Magic Man’s inner emotional turmoil.
‘Made Me a Man’ honors a person who, after enduring chaos, emotional wounds, and a messy past, decides to confront it all and seek a fresh start. It’s not about hiding your scars or pretending to be fine. It’s about owning your story, the good and the bad.
It’s a journey for anyone who has ever felt lost, bravely accepted their truth, and taken the first step toward healing, ultimately finding the magic within themselves.
From losing himself to finding his magic, Jackson Wang brings his journey full circle with ‘Made Me a Man’.
