On February 16, Korean media outlets reported that actress Kim Sae Ron passed away at the age of 24.
According to reports, Kim Sae Ron’s body was discovered by a friend at her residence in Seongsu-dong around 4:50 PM KST (1:20 PM IST) on Sunday. Emergency services were dispatched following the friend’s call.
The Seongdong District Police Station conducted an investigation. Talking to local media outlets, a police source stated, “There were no signs of crime, including break-in, and we are investigating the exact circumstances of her passing.” Her death was later ruled as a suicide.
Kim Sae Ron was born in Seoul on July 31, 2000. She started her career in 2001 as a child model. She made her acting debut in 2009 at the age of nine, with the film ‘A Brand New Life’ directed by the French-Korean filmmaker Ounie Lecomte, the film was screened at the Cannes Film Festival and Kim Sae Ron became one of the youngest actresses to attend the festival. The actress rose to fame for her role in the 2010 film ‘The Man from Nowhere’ and the 2012 thriller ‘The Neighbor’.
As a teenager she starred in several television drama series, she won the Best Young Actress Award at the 2013 MBC Drama Awards for her role in ‘The Queen’s Classroom’. As an adult, she secured her first lead role in the television drama ‘Secret Healer’ (2016).
In 2022, the actress was found guilty in a drunk-driving incident which caused her to halt her acting career. Kim Sae Ron was last seen in the role of Cha Hyeon Ju on the Netflix show ‘Bloodhounds’, released in 2023.
Her funeral took place on February 17. Kim Sae Ron’s ‘The Man From Nowhere’ co-star Won Bin, actress Kim Bo Ra, and Han So Hee were among the celebrities in attendance. Reports suggest that Cha Eun Woo, Seo Ye Ji, IU, Ma Dong Seok, and others conveyed their regards by sending floral wreaths to the funeral venue.
