Following the devastating plane crash that took the lives of 179 people, the Korean entertainment industry has significantly scaled back its public activities over the next few days as the country goes into mourning.
On December 29, the production company, Hive Media Corp, canceled the press conference for the movie ‘Secret: Untold Melody’ which was to be held at Seoul’s Megabox Coex. Similarly, the appearance of actors Song Joong Ki and Lee Hee Jun on jtbc’s ‘Chef & My Fridge’ for the movie ‘Bogota: City of the Lost’ was shelved to focus on news coverage.
The live broadcast of the ‘2024 MBC Drama Awards,’ ‘2024 MBC Gayo Daejejeon WANNABE’, and the ‘2024 KBS Drama Awards’ were canceled. A pre-recorded broadcast will be aired later. The ‘2024 SBS Entertainment Awards’ was also canceled, however, whether it will be rescheduled as a recorded broadcast or released in another format hasn’t been decided.

Several K-Pop idols have also paused their schedules during the national mourning period. IVE and SEVENTEEN BSS have temporarily postponed their respective promotional rollouts for their comebacks. B.I.’s agency’s 131 Online confirmed that all his official content will be on hold for the next seven days, while BIGHIT MUSIC confirmed that all BTS content has been postponed. Other artists including JUST B, AB6IX, n.SSign, WEi, Baekhyun, and more have followed suit, rescheduling content and live appearances while offering heartfelt condolences.

The ‘2024 Seoul Winter Festa’ held by the Seoul Metropolitan Government has also been scaled back during the national mourning period.
