Hosted and organized by Korean Culture Center India and India Korea Friends Mumbai respectively, the regional round of the K-Pop India Contest 2021 was held on October 31.
The regional round witnessed great performances by the participants both in the Vocal and Dance category. Among thousands of contestants who had auditioned for the contest, 13 participants were selected for the vocal category and 7 individuals and 4 teams qualified for the dance category. The contestants were selected based on various criteria set for both categories.
Regional Round Selection Criteria for Vocal:
-Ability: 60%
-Expression and Pronunciation: 20%
-Stage Charisma: 20%
Regional Round Selection Criteria for Dance:
-Choreography which included Composition and Uniformity: 40%
-Technique: 30%
-Stage Charisma: 30%
Due to the pandemic, the contest was held virtually and hosted live on the KCCI’s YouTube channel. The pre-recorded videos of the contestants were streamed and the winners were selected by the judges based on their performances and the other important criteria.
Winners (Dance Category)
1st Place: MMGirls (Million Moves Girls) – Established in March, the group consists of seven members who were brought together due to their common love for K-Pop. MM Girls will be competing in the final round of the contest and they seem to be excited to give their best.
2nd Place: Axiom Girls
3rd Place: Friskles
Winners (Vocal Category)
1st Place: Megha Nair: As a young and talented singer, this wasn’t the first time that Megha has participated in the contest. Despite her previous losses, she was not discouraged as finally her hard work and dedication enabled her to grab the win for the Mumbai regionals. Megha started her journey by grooving to BTS songs and has now fallen in love with K-Pop. As for the finals, Megha’s a bit nervous but then again she has promised to do her best.

3rd Place: Prerna Pratap Bhosale
MMGirls and Megha Nair will be representing the Mumbai region in the finals along with the representatives and winners from the 19 different regions. The final round will be held on November 27, 5 PM and will be live-streamed on the Korean Culture Centre India YouTube Channel. The ultimate winner in each category will get a chance to go on a free trip to Korea.
