The official bells for 2021 award season have officially rung with the announcement of VMAs.
As stated by the MTV website, “this year’s awards, complete with a newly redesigned Moonperson statue by artist Kehinde Wiley, will also honor the victims of the 9/11 terror attacks by collaborating with the nonprofit 9/11 Day on a series of events to promote awareness and positive action around the day’s 20th anniversary,” On September 12, it will be broadcast live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
With all the amazing artists being nominated for different categories, the KPOP sensation BTS has been recommended for 5 nominations, making them the group with the most nominations for this year.
BTS are nominated for-
- Song of the Year – Dynamite
- Best Pop – Butter
- Best Choreography – Butter
- Best Editing – Butter
- Best Kpop – Butter
With these five nominations, BTS tied with Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Drake, Giveon, Lil Nas X and Olivia Rodrigo, who also earned same number of nominations.
With that in Best KPOP category alongside with BTS we have
(G)I-DLE for DUMDi DUMDi :
“DUMDi DUMDi” is a tropical-based dance song with a moombahton rhythm that will make you feel (G)I-DLE’s unique summer. It was a perfect summer comeback with (G)I-DLE’s stylish and hip look. The song also celebrated its first anniversary on August 3.
BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez for Ice Cream
“Ice Cream” is a collaboration between BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez. It’s a “electro/bubblegum pop track showing charms of all the five singers.
MONSTA X for GAMBLER
“GAMBLER” is the title track of their third studio album One Of A Kind, which also helps them to get a good result in American market this year.
SEVENTEEN for Ready to Love
SEVENTEEN is also ready to make you confess your love at VMAs with “Ready To Love”. The pop song is a joint collaboration and was co-written by WOOZI, leader S.Coups and Mingyu. Renowned songwriter Kyler Niko and Korean acts like BUMZU, Danke and HYBE CEO Bang Si Hyuk have also worked on the track.
TWICE for Alcohol- Free
TWICE is also ready slay on VMAs with their first ever nomination with “Alcohol-Free” which we can never get enough of.
The VMAs is set to take place next month and this year, Justin Bieber is leading the list of nominees, followed closely by Megan Thee Stallion, Billie Eilish, BTS, Doja Cat, Drake, Giveon, Lil Nas X and first-time nominee Olivia Rodrigo.
The Video Music Awards are expected to air from New York’s Barclays Center on September 12 at 8pm. E.T. The show will be simulcast on CMT, Comedy Central, Logo, MTV2, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, Pop, TV Land, VH1 and The CW Network.
