Broadcast on tvN in 2024, the ‘O’PENing’ series comprises five single-episode dramas, each penned by emerging writers selected through CJ ENM’s ‘O’PEN’ project, a support initiative dedicated to nurturing new storytelling talent in Korea. The annual project offers fresh screenwriters the chance to create original content, brought to life by Studio Dragon’s production expertise.
At this year’s Houston International Film Festival, ‘O’PENing’ proudly brought home several prestigious awards, including the Platinum Award for ‘Recipient’, Gold Awards for ‘Mi Ran, the Junk Dealer,’ ‘Our Beautiful Summer,’ and ‘ The Nerd’s Daughter,’ and the Silver Award for ‘My Son Died’.
The success of these dramas is a testament not only to the power of compelling storytelling but also to the rising global recognition of Korea’s next-generation creators.
The title ‘O’PENing’ itself reflects its mission—serving as an ‘opening’ for fresh talent to step into the spotlight and shape the future of K-content. Each short drama in the series delivers unique narratives, innovative styles, and emotional depth, offering a glimpse into the creativity and potential of Korea’s new wave of writers.
CJ ENM reaffirmed its commitment to supporting young creatives, stating that it will continue to empower emerging talent to perform on larger stages and refine their skills. Through initiatives like ‘O’PEN’, CJ ENM and Studio Dragon aim to solidify Korea’s global storytelling influence.
The international recognition of ‘O’PENing’ at Houston marks a proud moment for Korea’s entertainment industry, reinforcing its growing role in the global content arena.
