Stray Kids is back with a new Japanese album.
On June 18, Stray Kids released their third Japanese mini-album ‘Hollow’, marking their first Japanese release in nearly three years since ‘Circus’ in June 2022. The album comprises five tracks, including the title track ‘Hollow’, along with ‘Parade’, ‘Never Alone’, ‘just a little’, and ‘宿命’.
The title track, ‘Hollow’, which was pre-released on June 11 along with its music video, conveys a sense of sudden solitude and emotional void through powerful synths, electric guitar, and emotive piano touches. Its name blends the English word “hollow,” meaning emptiness, with the Korean word “홀로,” which translates to “alone” or “lonely.” The group first performed the song at their concerts in Shizuoka last month.
Upon release, ‘Hollow’ topped Japanese charts, like RecoChoku and iTunes. It also reached No. 1 on iTunes’ overall song charts in eight countries, and its music video hit No. 1 on YouTube’s global trending chart, ranking high in several countries.
Additionally, the track ‘Parade’, driven by bold hip-hop elements and hard-hitting beats, has been chosen as the theme song for the upcoming Japanese horror film ‘Body Search: The Last Night’. This marks the group’s first contribution to a Japanese film soundtrack.
Notably, producing members Bang Chan, Changbin, and Han, collectively known as 3RACHA, wrote and produced all five tracks on the album. ‘Hollow’ also marks Stray Kids’ first album of entirely original Japanese songs since their debut in Japan in 2020.
