On May 24, SM Entertainment announced that NCT members Sungchan and Shotaro will debut in a new group.

SM Entertainment has announced, “Sungchan and Shotaro will be leaving NCT and debuting in a new boy group. The new group is expected to debut in the third quarter of 2023.” They also said, “After careful consideration and conversation with Sungchan and Shotaro in preparation for SM 3.0, we have come to a decision that would best reflect the artists’ thoughts and each of the group’s artistic and musical direction.”
SM Entertainment further revealed, it’s plans to add more Japanese members to NCT’s newest group which will become the final group to be part of NCT’s infinite expansion.
Sungchan and Shotaro debuted as members of NCT in October 2020 as participants in the NCT 2020 album ‘Resonance Pt. 1‘ and was expected to be part of the new NCT group.
