When the last episode ended, we all knew, or thought we knew, what was coming. Knowing the premise and Gyeon U’s unlucky fate, we assumed that the next chapter would be horror-movie level scary, and we’d have to brace ourselves for the dark twists. But what did we get instead? Laughter, butterflies, blushes…and a ghost who made us feel things?
Wait a minute!
How come we ended up swooning over a villain whom we were supposed to hate? Let’s see why!
Episode 7

We get another flashback where Seong A rushes to the abandoned house, without realising that Gyeon U and Ji-ho were following her. Gyeon U enters the house, but the door closes immediately, leaving Ji-ho outside. That’s when Yeom-hwa succeeds in her evil plan and the dark entity possesses Gyeon U. Ugh, that evil shaman, she’s not just mean, but a mastermind —she set the perfect snare for Gyeon U and he walked right into it. He was the last offering she gave to the entity.
Honestly, the twist was Bongsu — the evil entity who takes over Gyeon U —developing feelings for Seong A. But, the wildest part? That Bongsu fell for Seong A when he saw her dancing outside the abandoned house. And, jokes apart, it gave me the same butterflies as when Sun-jae fell for Im Sol.
I know it’s the same actor playing both roles —hats off to Choo Young Woo for this insane versatility —but the chemistry between Bongsu and Seong A was absolutely electric. But the downside was that the moment he touched her, Gyeon U would come back. So, he proposed a hide-and-seek game to Seong A, and if she catches him, he might spare Gyeon U’s life. It was kinda hilarious to see Bongsu roaming in the city and dueling at an arcade with Ji-ho.
Once Seong A finds him and touches him, Gyeon U comes back. Unaware of who is in front of her, Seong A finally lets out her feelings. That’s when Gyeon U reveals himself, and they go back to Seong A’s home, in hopes of doing an exorcism to cast out the evil entity. It was chaotic and lowkey the best part of the episode. During the ritual, the shamans throw nuts and tofu towards him, only for him to accidentally eat the food and say it was delicious. But my favorite part? The way he talked to the flower master shaman (played by Yoon Byung Hee) and said: “What are you? Are you a woman or not?”
The next day, a possessed Gyeon U escapes and goes to school. That’s when Ji-ho realises it’s not Gyeon U. Later during the day, Seong A finds that Bongsu has filled a form for an archery competition, to which she confronts him. The latter, however, informs her that he made a deal with Gyeon U. Returning to his body, Gyeon U confirms that in exchange for competing in the competition, he will lend Bongsu his body at school. The episode then ends on a warm note, with Gyeon U affirming his feelings for Seong A and hugging her.
Episode 8

So apparently, Yeom-hwa was General Dongcheon’s spirit daughter, and all that monstrous act of hers was only to bring back her dead child as a deity. Strip away the evil, and you have only a desperate mother. Yet, I believe that regardless of her intentions, her love for her child still doesn’t justify unleashing that kind of evil.
Meanwhile, it was really sweet to see Gyeon U and Seong A spending some time together —you know that pure and innocent kind of teenage love that makes you smile. And then we had Ji-ho finally confessing his feelings to Seong A —except that he ended up confessing in front of Gyeon U. But you know what’s even funnier? Bongsu comes back only to call Ji-ho’s confession boring.
On the other hand, we see Yeom-hwa being troubled and anxious as Bongsu plans on staying in Gyeon U’s body for a long time, rather than becoming her patron deity. At that particular time, Seong A’s spirit aunt comes and sensing the presence of the evil deity, she attempts to get rid of him. Amid the chaos, Bongsu lashes out at the aunt, and while Seong A and Gyeon U manage to control the situation, it is revealed that Gyeon U’s spiritual senses have begun to awaken. Currently, he can only hear ghosts. But if his other senses, like sight, taste, and smell, awaken, he will become one with the ghost world.
And, finally, D-day arrived. The archery competition day. Seong A has been helping Gyeon U train by putting her hand behind his back. And, for the big day, Bongsu helped Seong A in drawing an amulet on his body so that Gyeon U can compete being himself. However, as you know, nothing really goes as planned. In a big and dramatic attempt, Yeom-hwa does a counter-ritual, trying to merge her spirit with Bongsu’s. This ends up opening the spiritual eyes of Gyeon U, who finally sees Seong A in her full shaman energy.
Final Thoughts
I like Gyeon U. But, I don’t know how or why, but it seems that I’m fangirling over Bongsu. A lot. Maybe it’s his chemistry with Seong A, especially that bedroom scene. The part where he sits on the bed and watches her sleep. The way he looked at her? I melted. We definitely need more of them together.
Oh, and about Yeom-hwa? No redemption. That’s what I think of her character and her evil deeds. What about you? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
