On August 14, singer-songwriter LIM KIM confirmed that she had signed an exclusive contract with Universal Music Korea (UMK), a division of Universal Music Group (UMG). Sharing his thoughts on signing LIM KIM to the agency, Calvin Wong, CEO of Universal Music Group Southeast Asia and Korea, & SVP of Asia, said, “LIM KIM has always brought a fresh perspective to the music scene with her unique voice and creative flair. We’re thrilled to collaborate with her on the next chapter of her artistic journey, in Korea and beyond.”
LIM KIM also shared her excitement about beginning this new journey, saying, “I’m excited to embark on a new chapter with Universal Music. I look forward to sharing music that resonates deeply, crafted with my own unique voice and rhythm.”
LIM KIM originally debuted in 2011 as a member of the duo Togeworl (투개월), formed through the survival show ‘Superstar K3’. She later made her solo debut in 2013 with the EP ‘A Voice’. The title track, ‘All Right’, topped the charts, and the album earned her Rookie of the Year honors at the Golden Disc Awards, Melon Music Awards, and Gaon Chart K-POP Awards.
In 2019, performing under the name LIM KIM, she took a bold artistic turn with the single ‘SAL-KI,’ unveiling a daring new style and concept. That same year, she released the EP ‘GENERASIAN,’ a project that challenged and reimagined East Asian female identity through a fusion of electronic and hip-hop sounds. The album earned her both Best Dance & Electronic Album and Best Dance & Electronic Song at the 17th Korean Music Awards. Her influence carried forward into 2023, when the tracks ‘YELLOW’ and ‘YO-SOUL’from ‘GENERASIAN’ were chosen as mission songs on Mnet’s ‘Street Woman Fighter 2’, brought to life by choreography from the acclaimed 1MILLION Dance Studio. This creative partnership continued in 2024, with 1MILLION crafting the choreography for her single ‘ULT (궁).’
LIM KIM is known for her distinctive voice, genre-blending sound, and bold visual style, establishing herself as a versatile figure in Korea’s music, fashion, and cultural scenes.
With her new partnership with UMK, she joins the label’s dynamic roster, which includes DEAN, HEYOON, Okasian, and Bryan Chase.
