Netflix has confirmed premiere plans for its upcoming drama ‘Aema’ and unveiled new teasers.
On July 24, Netflix Korea revealed the teaser poster and video for its upcoming drama ‘Aema’. Set in the 1980s Chungmuro, the drama explores the dark realities behind the glamorous film industry. It follows two actresses, Hee Ran and Joo Ae, during the making of one of the biggest Korean movies of the decade, ‘Madam Aema’.

Lee Ha Nee plays Hee Ran, a top star of the 1980s who is demoted to a supporting role after she openly criticizes a script filled with nudity and the overuse of the word “breasts,” and decides to boycott the film company’s CEO, Goo Joong Ho (Jin Sun Kyu).
In response, Goo Joong Ho tasks rookie director Kwak In Woo (Cho Hyun Chul), who is directing ‘Madam Aema’, with holding a large-scale audition to cast a new lead.
Bang Hyo Rin stars as Joo Ae, a bold and charming newcomer who ends up landing the role of Aema. She walks into the audition room saying, “Please make me Jung Hee Ran,” to which Hee Ran replies, “Interesting,” hinting at the subtle rivalry between them.
The teaser poster features Hee Ran and Joo Ae standing in front of a theater showing the 1980s hit film ‘Madame Aema’. Their contrasting styles spark curiosity about their chemistry and the story that will unfold.
The tagline, “1981, a time to bare it all and sock it to the man,” further hints at a bold story of two women who refuse to conform to an unjust system and fight back in their own ways.
‘Aema’ is set to premiere on August 22.
