Netflix Confirms Cast Lineup For Upcoming Drama ‘Aema’

Netflix Korea announces the final cast lineup for their upcoming series ‘Aema’

On September 11, Netflix Korea confirmed the production of their upcoming series ‘Aema’ and announced the cast including actors Hanee Lee, Bang Hyo Rin, Jin Sun Kyu, and Cho Hyun Chul.

Set in 1980’s Chungmuro, in the heart of the Korean film industry, ‘Aema’ follows the struggles that Hui Ran and Joo Ae face as they are making the movie ‘Madame Aema’. The series also throws light on the harsh realities of actors behind the glam of showbiz.

Hanee Lee, who is known for her roles in dramas like ‘One The Woman’ and ‘The Fiery Priest’, takes on the role of the celebrated actress Jeong Hui Ran, who is one of the best of her times. Unfortunately, she is removed from the lead role in ‘Madame Aema’ due to a dispute with the production studio. The lead role is then given to the up-and-coming young actress Shin Joo Ae, played by Bang Hyo Rin. Joo Ae starts her career as a nightclub dancer, but her life changes when she is cast in the most anticipated film in Korea, Madame Aema.

Jin Sun Kyu, best known for his roles in ‘The Outlaws’, and more recently, ‘The Uncanny Counter Season 2: Counter Punch’ plays producer Gu Jung Ho who is competitive and would stop at nothing to get what he wants. Cho Hyun Chul, who left an impression on the audience with his performances in ‘D.P.’ and ‘Hotel del Luna’, plays the aspiring but timid director Kwak In Woo who is making his directorial debut with Madame Aema.

The series is written and directed by Lee Hae Young of ‘Phantom’ and ‘Believer’ fame and produced by The LAMP Co. Ltd and Studio Kik Co. Ltd. With a host of diverse characters, ‘Aema’ is set to add glamour, glitz, drama and energy upon its release.

Further information about the drama is yet to be announced.
