Lee Jung Jae expressed his gratitude, stating, “Receiving the Chaplin Award makes me even more nervous and I certainly feel the weight of this award—even compared to receiving the Emmy Award. It’s a strange mixture of feelings because Mr Chaplin is someone I have deep respect for and deeply love. He was an amazing artist and fellow filmmaker. Having received this award in Singapore is such a meaningful occasion for me.”
The Chaplin Award is a prestigious lifetime achievement honor presented annually by Film at Lincoln Center in New York. Established in 1972 to recognize outstanding contributions to the cinematic arts, the award’s first recipient was Charlie Chaplin himself, after whom it is named. The Asia category of the award was introduced in 2018, with one recipient selected each year to celebrate excellence in Asian cinema.
Lee Jung Jae gained global fame with his Emmy-winning performance in Netflix’s ‘Squid Game’ and recently expanded his international presence by joining the ‘Star Wars’ universe in Disney+’s ‘The Acolyte’.
Congratulations to Lee Jung Jae!
