K-Drama Recommendation of the Week – ‘Can This Love Be Translated?’ : Love Beyond Words

Can you speak seven languages but still not understand your own heart? Introducing ‘Can This Love Be Translated?’, the sparkling 2026 romantic comedy written by the legendary Hong Sisters and starring the dream duo Kim Seon-ho and Go Youn-jung!

This Netflix series isn’t just about love lost in translation, it’s about finding it in the spaces between words, glances, and cultural divides. Get ready for a hilarious, heartfelt, and hopelessly charming ride across the globe—where even a linguistic genius can be clueless when it comes to love.

Netflix 'Can This Love Be Translated?' Teaser Poster 2 [Premieres January 16] : r/KDRAMA

Starring: Kim Seon-ho, Go Youn-jung, Sota Fukushi, Choi Woo-sung, Lee Yi-dam

Director: Yoo Young-eun

Writer: Hong Jung-eun, Hong Mi-ran (The Hong Sisters)

Episodes: 12

Where to Watch: Netflix

Vibe Check: Whimsical, wordplay-filled, heartfelt romantic comedy

The Plot

When Words Fail, Love Speaks.

Meet Joo Ho-jin (Kim Seon-ho), a ‘linguistic genius’ interpreter fluent in seven languages but utterly illiterate in the language of love. His perfectly ordered world is turned upside down when he is hired to interpret for Cha Mu-hee (Go Youn-jung), a globally adored actress turned reality TV star.

From their awkward first encounter in Japan to a chaotic reunion on the dating show Romantic Trip, where Ho-jin must interpret between Mu-hee and her charming Japanese co-star Hiro (Sota Fukushi), their journey is filled with misunderstandings, hilarious clashes, and moments where no translation is needed.

As Ho-jin finds himself emotionally invested in the woman he is supposed to merely translate for, he learns that some feelings go beyond vocabulary.

The Characters

Joo Ho-jin (Played by Kim Seon-ho)

Kim Seon-ho brings his signature warmth and comedic timing to the role of Ho-jin, a man who can navigate seven languages but can’t decode his own heart. His journey from a rigid interpreter to an emotionally awakened romantic is as endearing as it is relatable.

Cha Mu-hee / Do Ra-mi (Played by Go Youn-jung)

Image

Go Youn-jung delivers a strong performance as a vibrant, strong-willed actress accustomed to the spotlight but longing for sincerity. Her chemistry with Kim Seon-ho is effective, balancing lively banter with moments of quiet, heartfelt connection.

The Supporting Cast

Hiro Kurosawa (Played by Sota Fukushi)

Image

The charismatic Japanese actor and Mu-hee’s co-star on Romantic Trip, whose easy charm contrasts with Ho-jin’s stiff sincerity, adds a layer of romantic tension.

Choi Woo-sung (Played by Kim Yong Woo)

Image

Cha Mu-hee’s friend and longtime manager provides much of the comic relief and advice as Cha Mu-hee stumbles through her feelings.

Lee Yi-dam (Played by Shin Ji-woo)

A sharp and witty producer on Romantic Trip who notices the brewing chemistry between Ho-jin and Mu-hee and isn’t afraid to stir the pot.

Why This Drama is Your Next Binge

  • A Globetrotting Romance: From Tokyo to Paris, the stunning international backdrops aren’t just scenery; they are integral to the story, reflecting the characters’ journeys toward understanding and connection.
  • Witty, Wordplay-Filled Writing: Crafted by the iconic Hong Sisters, the dialogue is sharp, humorous, and layered with meaning, fitting a series centered on communication in all its forms.
  • Chemistry That Needs No Translation: Kim Seon-ho and Go Youn-jung deliver compelling romantic tension, balancing laugh-out-loud moments with tender, emotionally resonant scenes.

The Final Verdict

Love Is the Only Language That Matters.

‘Can This Love Be Translated?’ is a witty, warm, and well-executed romantic comedy that proves even when words fail, love finds a way to speak. Whether you’re a polyglot or simply fluent in feelings, this series is sure to charm its way straight into your heart.

If you believe love is the one language that needs no dictionary, press play—this one’s for you.
