K-pop star JEON SOMI is officially making her big-screen debut!
The South Korean-Canadian singer JEON SOMI has been cast alongside Arden Cho and Adeline Rudolph in the upcoming psychological thriller-horror film, ‘Perfect Girl.’
‘Perfect Girl’ follows the story of a new K-pop group preparing for their debut. Described as ‘Scream meets Black Swan,’ the film is based on a 2023 Black List script by Lynn Q. Yu and is set against the backdrop of the competitive K-pop industry. The synopsis reads, “With only four spots available in the band and the final cut a week away, the competition is off the charts. When a talented and mysterious new girl is introduced at the last minute, things start to get strange — girls are being hunted and attacked one by one, but who is responsible for the carnage, and more importantly…who will make the final cut?”
The film will be helmed by Hong Won Ki and produced by Badlands, Thunder Road, and Cho. Sunshine and Moonshine will create an original soundtrack for the film, featuring six original tracks that “blend the worlds of music and film.” Whether JEON SOMI or Cho will contribute to the soundtracks has not yet been confirmed.
“We are so excited Jeon Somi is making her film debut in Perfect Girl,” said producer Scott Strauss at Badlands. “She is a one-of-a-kind talent whose chemistry with Arden and Adeline is off the charts. The three will elevate our chills, thrills, and drama and collaborate with Director Hong to ensure an authentic portrayal of Korean culture and the world of K-pop.”
Cho, a Korean American actor, first rose to fame in the MTV hit series ‘Teen Wolf.’ She later starred as the lead in Netflix’s ‘Partner Track’ and currently appears in a recurring role in Netflix’s live-action ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender.’ She is also the voice behind Rumi in the animated film ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters.’
Adeline Rudolph, fresh off her lead role in ‘Mortal Kombat 2,’ has previously been seen in series such as ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ and ‘Resident Evil’ for Netflix, as well as ‘Riverdale’ on The CW.
JEON SOMI first rose to popularity after winning ‘Produce 101,’ the South Korean reality singing competition, which led to her debut as a member of the project girl group I.O.I. Following her victory, she signed with THEBLACKLABEL and began working closely with producer Teddy.
She later released her first full-length album ‘XOXO,’ fronted by the single ‘Dumb Dumb,’ which racked up 20 million views in just two days and entered the Billboard 200. Her follow-up single, also titled ‘XOXO,’ surpassed 100 million views within a month, cementing her position as one of the leading female soloists of her generation. In the summer of 2023, JEON SOMI returned with her EP ‘GAME PLAN’ and the hit track ‘Fast Forward,’ whose music video surpassed 80 million views and held the title of #1 Trending Music Video Worldwide for three consecutive days.
The film production is slated to begin on October 27 this year.
