The soundtrack album for the newest Marvel movie, Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings, is here and it features some well known Korean artists!
Even before its official release, the movie’s soundtrack album was surrounded by a lot of buzz, especially after the trailer dropped on 19 April 2021. Fans were super excited as many noticed Jackson Wang’s voice in the trailer’s background, which led to rumours of the idol participating in the soundtrack.
Though the official track list doesn’t feature Wang, it boasts a wide range of songs featuring well-known artists from South Korea, the USA, and Singapore. The album consisting of 18 tracks was dropped earlier today (3 September) and is just as action-packed as the movie itself.
The album has been produced by 88rising, an Asian Arts Collective. 88rising worked closely with the movie’s director, Destin Daniel Cretton, to produce the album. Ranging from R&B to trap, the songs mirror the movie’s themes of family and the Asian-American experience. In a press statement, the founder and CEO of 88rising, Sean Miyashiro said, “With this album, I wanted to bring artists together to tell the stories of unconditional love and memories of growing up. These are songs dedicated to the first dances our parents shared together when they were young, as we continue to celebrate their love stories and everlasting youth. This album is for their sacrifice, their grit, and their endless endurance to give us the platform to be great. We wanted to make music and write songs celebrating all of that, while marrying the themes of the film of cherishing family, being fearless, and realizing your destiny.”
A number of artists from 88rising and other labels were involved in the album. Notably, well-known Korean artists DPR Live, DPR Ian, Zion.T, BIBI, Seori, Henry Lau and GOT7’s Mark Tuan participated in recording the songs. Mark Tuan and BIBI collaborated on the track titled ‘Never Gonna Come Down’.
DPR LIVE and DPR IAN recorded ‘Diamond + and Pearls’ with peace, while Zion.T featured on ‘Nomad’ with Gen Hoshino.
Seori, a South Korean singer under ATISPAUS, was also featured on one of the tracks titled ‘Warriors’.
Apart from this, Henry Lau also collaborated on the track “Baba Says” with Adawa and Shayiting EL.
All in all, this album is filled with diversity and rightly so, after all the Superhero is also, all about representation! You can listen to the whole soundtrack on iTunes, Spotify, YouTube Music and Amazon Music.
