On September 29, Warner Bros. Korea announced that the production of the Korean remake of ‘The Intern’ has officially begun. The remake features Han So Hee as the ambitious CEO of a fashion tech startup and veteran actor Choi Min Sik as the senior intern whose quiet wisdom reshapes her world.

Directed by Kim Do Young, the film reimagines the original’s workplace comedy-drama through a Korean lens, exploring generational divides, burnout culture, and the unexpected bond between two people at very different stages of life. Han’s character, Seon Woo, is a driven executive navigating the pressures of leadership, while Choi’s Gi Ho, a 70-year-old widower, joins her company through a senior internship program, bringing empathy, experience, and a fresh perspective to a fast-paced environment.
The original 2015 Hollywood hit, starring Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro, was a surprise box office success in Korea, earning over $24 million. This success made the remake one of the most anticipated local adaptations in recent years.
The Korean version is expected to retain the heartwarming tone of the original while deepening its emotional resonance through culturally specific storytelling.
‘The Intern’ is slated to premiere in 2026.
