BIGBANG’s G-Dragon and Warner Music may have joined hands!
On September 30, G-Dragon uploaded pictures on his Instagram account, revealing his recent activities, without adding any captions or remarks. But, one particular picture drew the fans’ attention, an electronic display board bearing the message “WELCOMES G-DRAGON.”
On September 28, there were rumours reported by the international media, that the idol was in talks to sign with Warner Music. Around the same time, Korean media reported G-Dragon’s visit to Warner Music’s office in Los Angeles, USA.
The artist’s affiliation with Warner Music Group became evident when it was noticed that G-Dragon was listed alongside other Warner Music Group artists on a search portal site. The confirmation of his connection to the group was further cemented as he clicked the ‘Like‘ option on an SNS post announcing this information. A more comprehensive image, mirroring the one posted by the artist, emerged in an online community, leading to speculation that it depicted the headquarters of Warner Music Records. These matching images further solidified the news.
G-Dragon has been hinting at his solo comeback since the beginning of this year and consistently sharing updates on his current music production. In a recent video posted to mark the start of the new year, he expressed, “plan to visit you through various activities. I am also preparing an album. In the new year, I will try to become someone who can come to you with good news.”
In May, there was a notable absence of G-Dragon’s name in YG Entertainment’s quarterly report for March 2023, fueling rumors of his departure from both YG and BIGBANG. Initially listed under his real name, Kwon Ji-yong, his name disappeared after a few months, suggesting his departure. YG informed Star News that G-Dragon’s exclusive contract had expired, and they were working together through a separate contract for non-music activities, with plans to negotiate additional contracts when music activities resumed, pledging full support from YG.
