The gala took place on June 4 at Cipriani Wall Street, New York City, and brought together over 650 attendees. It raised more than 1.6 million USD to support JED’s mission of safeguarding teen and young adult mental health and preventing suicide. The event celebrated individuals making a difference in mental health awareness, with Eric Nam recognized for his honest and ongoing efforts to reduce stigma and encourage open conversations around emotional well-being.
As an artist, entrepreneur, and co-founder of DIVE Studios, Eric Nam has consistently supported mental wellness. In 2023, he teamed up with The JED Foundation through Mindset, a wellness platform by DIVE Studios, to launch a K-pop content series focused on mental health and well-being among Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) youth. Featuring intimate, personal stories from Korean artists, the series aimed to normalize mental health support and create space for often-overlooked voices in mental health conversations, reaching AAPI youth and K-pop fans around the world.
In his acceptance speech, Eric shared, “Mental health is universal; it impacts how every one of us shows up in the world,” highlighting the importance of the project in giving underrepresented voices a platform. Reflecting on the need for balance and care, he added, “Prioritizing self-care and valuing our mental health as much as our physical health is essential to being the best version of ourselves. There should be no shame in nurturing all aspects of our well-being.”
Hosted by Emmy Award-winning journalist Savannah Sellers, the gala also honored Ally Love, a Peloton instructor and CEO/founder of Love Squad. The night featured moving performances by Lorna Courtney, Thomas Robert Kitt, BAILEN, and the Brooklyn United Marching Band.
Eric Nam’s recognition by The Jed Foundation reflects his growing influence beyond music, showing how his advocacy is making a real difference in reshaping how mental health is discussed, especially among young fans and underrepresented communities.
