Young K, member of Korean band, DAY 6 personally announces two news on his recent V LIVE broadcast.
Earlier today, Young K spoke about his enlistment in October, estimated date being 12th and along with this news, he also mentioned his upcoming solo album called ‘Eternal’, which is a solo debut project before he goes to serve his duty in the army. Young K is to be the second member from DAY 6 to fulfil the service after Sungjin.
While breaking the enlistment news to his fans Young K said that as he is joining KATUSA, he will probably be having delicious food. He is the First idol in the K-POP industry to enlist in KATUSA, which stands for Korean Augmentation to the United States Army. Earlier, Rapper Swings had also enlisted for KATUSA which is a branch of Republic of Korea Army but has notable differences from Korean Army service. It is also recognized for having better treatment of soldiers in terms of food and allowances than Korean army service and restrictions.
To begin with, only candidates who have fluency in English with the passing scores on standardized English tests are eligible to apply. The application can only be filled once, hence it is believed to be highly reputable if one gets through the selection process and is finally selected through lottery system. Those who serve for KATUSA have to go through Republic of Korea Army (ROKA) training before they get assigned to U.S. military bases in South Korea for their duty.
The KATUSA commenced during the Korean war when U.S. military personnel needed soldiers that knew the geography of Korea, and the ability to distinguish ally troops from enemy troops while also helping to communicate better between U.S. soldiers and Korean soldiers so as to bridge the language barrier while also assisting under cascade of areas. In current day, Korean-speaking soldiers become functional to the U.S. military to achieve greater productivity and manoeuvrability across the Korean Peninsula. It also strengthens the friendly and faithful ties between both the countries.
With news of his solo debut as well as his upcoming enlistment, his fans have two contrasting things to look forward to. In the V live, while confirming his enlistment, Young K also cheered up fans with positive messages. The artist is currently active through his radio show, ‘Kiss The Radio.’
