ASTRO’s latest subunit, ZOONIZINI, consisting of MJ and JinJin, has made its official debut.
On August 13 at 6 PM KST (2:30 PM IST), ZOONIZINI released their first-ever mini album, ‘DICE,‘ along with the music video for the title track, ‘Some Things Never Change.’
‘DICE‘ consists of six tracks: ‘Some Things Never Change,‘ ‘New world,‘ ‘Utopia,‘ ‘Favorite Memory,‘ ‘Starlight Voyage,‘ and ‘Restart,‘ all interconnected, taking listeners on an unpredictable journey, much like rolling dice.
The title track, ‘Some Things Never Change,‘ is an emotional hip-hop song with a simple yet addictive rap and melody. Notably, JinJin took part in the lyrics and composition of the track, infusing it with ZOONIZINI’s unique flavor. The chorus lyrics, “Same thoughts so we act the same. 놀 때면 No time to sleep. 너무 웃어 Cannot breathe. Some things never change,” portray MJ and JinJin’s friendship since their carefree days, evoking a nostalgic mood. The music video complements the theme, delivering upbeat energy through ZOONIZINI’s playful chemistry.
The B-side track ‘New world‘ tells the story of ZOONIZINI falling into a mysterious world, while ‘Utopia‘ blends funky rhythms with sophisticated disco sounds. ‘Favorite Memory‘ explores the precious memories made with friends, ‘Starlight Voyage‘ is a cheerful track in the pop-rock genre, and ‘Restart‘ conveys the excitement of a new beginning.
Leading up to the debut, ZOONIZINI released various concept photos, heightening expectations.
The first concept photo, presented in a four-cut format, vividly captures MJ and JinJin’s natural and playful mood. Their innocent expressions and chemistry, paired with vintage and kitschy props, evoke cherished memories. The dazzling “BFF” moment is reminiscent of flipping through a photo album, warming viewers’ hearts with a sense of shared nostalgia.
The individual concept photos showcased MJ and JinJin’s distinct yet harmonious charms, while the second set of unit photos conveyed their warm chemistry filled with the excitement of travel. From naturally leaning on each other’s shoulders to filming their memories together on camera, the shots offered a realistic and sentimental feel, as if watching an actual travel log.
Having solidified their status as “K-pop’s representative all-rounders,” MJ and JinJin are opening an exciting new chapter this summer as ZOONIZINI, with versatile skills, boundless charm, and a unique concept.
The name ZOONIZINI is a combination of MJ’s (real name Kim Myung Jun) and JinJin’s (real name Park Jin Woo) names, and marks a new beginning together. Celebrating their 10th debut anniversary this year, their debut album ‘DICE‘ encapsulates MJ and JinJin’s shared journey, as well as their determination to break out of the mold and enjoy every moment that unfolds.
