BTS’ RM has made history as the first K-pop artist to deliver a keynote speech at the ‘APEC CEO SUMMIT KOREA 2025’.
On October 29 KST, RM addressed over 1,700 global leaders at the prestigious APEC CEO SUMMIT held at Gyeongju on the theme ‘Cultural and Creative Industries in the APEC Region and the Soft Power of K-Culture’.
RM emphasized that K-pop’s rise isn’t about cultural superiority but about embracing diversity and preserving Korea’s identity. He pointed out how the global unity within the fandom is what makes K-pop unique, with its inclusive and solidary nature.
He also discussed how K-pop’s fusion approach allows people from various backgrounds to connect, combining genres like hip-hop, R&B, and EDM with Korea’s distinctive emotions and aesthetics. He compared this blend to bibimbap, where “each element keeps its identity yet creates harmony.”
In his ten-minute speech, RM urged APEC leaders to support creative industries “There are creators all around the world. Please help them. Give them the financial support so that their own creativity can bloom. Give them the opportunities so that their talents can really shine. Culture and art are a powerful force that moves hearts. They are the fastest messengers that carry diversity and resonance. Your policies and support will be the canvas and playground for all the creators.”
Ahead of his speech, RM and HYBE’s Chairman Bang Si-hyuk visited HYBE’s promotional booth at the venue, where the company showcased its multi-label strategy and global music IP initiatives.
